USB external disk FAT32: can not write

Hello.
I got some weeks ago a DNS-323. Upgraded with fw 1.06 and loaded 2x 1 TB Western Digital Green SATA disk.
Everything seems to work fine.

In the last days I tried to connect an external USB disk.
I loaded fun plug 1.5 and usb-storage.ko

Here some questions:
1) how can I know exactly the device name? Sometimes it is /dev/sdc1 other times... it is different. Why? Since I need to script it, I really do not know in advance the device name.
2) mounting an external FAT32 (mount -t vfat /dev/sdc1 /mnt/HD_a2/ext) i can read everything from a windows client stored in the usb disk, but CAN NOT write anything. from the win client I got "access denied". I tried other mount options, but always same results.
3) I loaded the ntfs.ko module and trying to mount an external USB disk formatted NTFS, after issuing the mount command (mount -t ntfs....) I got "segmentation fault" error and the DNS-323 stops responding. Can not shut it down, even from from the box itself... I need to unplug the power. Am I doing something in a wrong way?

Thanks
