messing HD_a2, HD_b2, Volume_1, Volume_2 ...

Hello,
playing with my new DNS-323...

I loaded two Western Digital Green 1 TB, formetted 500+500 GB RAID1, then the DNS-323 itself created a jbod of the remaining free space. So I got: volume_1 = 500 GB RAID1 and volume_2 = 1 TB jbod
I tested Everyhting and it was fine.

Then through the DNS-323 menu I reformatted the discs as standard independent disk: this is was happened:
1) menu tools --> RAID, format as independent volumes
2) appears the warning that all data on both disks will be deleted... I know, it is OK
3) appears the progress bar of the format process, 1%... 2%... 5% then.... FORMAT FAILURE
4) the message says that I need to reboot the DNS-323
5) OK... i accept ad reboot
6) when the DNS-323 comes back to me, logged in into the web admin, it says that it needs to format the drive(s).
7) I accept, ok... let we see what happens
8) after 15 minutes, more or less the progress bar reaches 100% and it ask me to reboot... OK
9) when the DNS-323 come back again to me, this is the status: Volume_1 has 500 GB available, Volume_2 has 1 TB. It seems that something was not good on the Volume_1 that keeps old configuration...

I repeated the process .... with the very same results.

Then I tried another way:
1) dsn-323 switched off
2) removed both discs
3) switch on the nas to check everythings
4) nas off, inserted the right drive, formetted it, it was OK... now again 1 TB free
5) nas off, removed the right drive and inserted the left drive
6) again formatted the only disk... it was fine
7) nas off, i inserted both discs and apparently everything was OK... two volumes both formatted without errors and with 1 TB each.

The surprise comes trying to install fun plug... copied the files on Volume_1... it does not work. I reboot the nas, but fun plug does not start at all.

This was the reason: I know that the right drive is the HD_a2 and it is exported as Volume_1 and the left is HD_b2, Volume_1
After formatting one disk a time, right drive = HD_a2 = Volume_2, and left drive = HD_b2 = Volume_1.

Questions:
1) why the dns-323 fails to format one of the two disk when both are inserted?
2) why this mess on the volumes?
