Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Not finding much of anything in the forum regarding 1.06.
Is that because it's rock solid, and folks aren't running into issues upgrading from 1.04 or 1.05, or ?

No problems here upgrading from 1.05 to 1.06. Although I had problems logging in using ssh after the upgrade (password problems) but I'm just not sure if I really forgot the password or somehow the upgrade messed up the passwd file. Had to re-enable telnet and reassigned a password to root and no problems since!

Thanks...I'm on 1.04, and am considering 1.06 for the UPS support and PS/3 connectivity, fan control, and a couple of the bug fixes.
However, everything has been solid running 1.04, and I'm afraid of suffering the consequences of breaking the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule.
Anyone care to talk me into upgrading? ;-)

I switched to 1.06 immediately it came out and have had very few problems with it, in fact, only one - it would not hibernate, but a reset to default (always a good idea after a firmware upgrade) and a re-configure fixed that.
Problems I have seen reported include email alerts no longer working and for some folk I think drive lights going pink for whatever reason.
I did notice a couple of quirks - the new "auto rebuild" feature doesn't seem to work quite the way I expected it to, and the UPS support, in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired - it appears to be a "default" NUT implementation with no provision for tweaking the shutdown parameters. NUT's shutdown logic is quite basic and goes along these lines - IF the UPS is on battery AND IF the UPS battery status is low THEN initiate shutdown - making it virtually unuseable for me.
By the way - the UPS status is shown on the status page in place of the printer status, perhaps making it clear that it is intended to be either a UPS or a printer but not both - I have not personally tried it but folks who have connected both a UPS and a printer via a USB hub have reported strange & varied status displays.

Thanks very much, Fordem, for the info above and for the help w/my external USB drive issue.
Looks like a go then...I just finished getting my backups to my USB drive back in sync, so data is safe, good timing.
I'm pretty proud of myself, as a serial upgrader, actually skipping 1.05 and waiting for 1.06. I think I deserve a cookie...

Is there a firmware 1.06 with enabled telnet support? That would be grand because there is one for 1.05

I agree with you DNS-323 Talker. The impression you get when you read the threads here is that 1.06 is not to trust. But I've installed it now, after reading your post, and it works ok but I seem to run into the same problems as the rest. I might be stupid but I just don't understand how this thing can affect my computer shutting down...unbelievably annoying...

Hi folks... Been away for a while. Looking to install 1.06 this weekend and need some advice.
Currently running 1.05.
2x 1 TB disks running in Raid-1.
Have fun_plug installed and running entirely off of a 16 gig USB stick.
SSH, fanctl, and syslogd are normally running.
With 1.06 I'd probably disable fanctl since fan shutoff is now standard functionality
Should I disable fun_plug before upgrading, then re-enable afterwards?
Will the fun_plug 0.5 still work OK without reinstalling?
Any issues with the raid array to consider? (I do have a backup but would like to not have to reinitialize/restore)
Can I get by without resetting to factory defaults after upgrade? I hate to reconfigure from scratch.
Thanks in advance.

Went ahead and upgraded. So far seems to be working for me... But one quirk. After reboot, that Status web page shows both hard disks under devices. If I refresh the page, the second disk is no longer listed. Its still functioning normally, just doesn't show on the device list. Anyone seen this?
I did not reset the firmware to factory defaults. Really don't want to do that if its not necessary... but will if I have to.

What is this I hear about a bug which formats the wrong drive after replacing a bad drive?
With what version did it start and has it been corrected in 1.06?

DonC - I've never seen the bug personally, but I've heard complaints about it as far back as fw 1.03

I did the update to 1.06, reset to factory defaults, reconfigured in web gui, reinstalled Fun_plug.
All went well. The unit seems to be functioning normally. My RAID-1 array survived in tact and I did not need to reformat/restore data.
However, in the Web STATUS screen, only one disk device shows up - even though there are 2 disks installed. In TOOLS-->Raid-->Set RAID Type, both drives are there.
I have reviewed /var/log/messages and its clear that the raid array is configured and functioning properly.
Has anybody noticed that the STATUS screen is not reporting both installed drives? Just curious.

I posted this on the dlink forum too. will report back what i hear.

UPDATE... The missing 2nd drive in the STATUS page device list is related to the fact that I have fun_plug running off of a USB memory stick in the USB port. When I boot the DNS and run fun_plug off of the internal disk, the problem disappears and everything looks normal. I suspect the web interface code in 1.06 just doesn't know how to handle the presence of more physical disk devices than 2.

I can confirm this. Remove the USB drive from the equation and all is well.
