Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

Nice!
Should solve at least one of my Vista issues.

Anybody flashed this yet?

You don't have to re-format drive(s) after applying this do you?
I think I had to reformat going to 1.02

Thanks!

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

I guess I was right.  First week in April (See http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t348-When- … e-110.html post #5).  NOW if this fixes the 2GB issues......

Well, at least scheduled downloads don't disappear after a reboot now.  Now we just have to wait a week to see if the scheduled downloads/TimeZone sync kills the box...

My DNS-323 even sent me an e-mail notice about the firmware upgrade, just like I told it to.

The FTP server settings isn't showing me my users, it isn't keeping the port I want it running on between restarts either.

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

My guess is that this forum specifically allowed them to find the problems and fix them.  I hope they release the 1.03 firmware sources as required by the GPL so I can look through and make sure things are fixed (the 2GB fix specifically) to my satisfaction.

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

Did anyone else notice if the HDDs worked (the LEDs flashed) for quite some time after the first reboot of the DNS after the upgrade? Perhaps the file system where checked for errors?

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

I guess it's time to worry about the US version problem for us here in the EU (Sweden in my case). If the flash goes south, does this viod my warranty? Did someone in the EU try it yet, successfully? //epatnor

EDIT: I see that at least MiK, took the plunge. Any worries / problems?

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

No, so far (knocking on wood) the only worries was that a/ I had to use MISE7 for the flash, b/ the fan speeds up for ~1s during boot, and c/ during the first reboot after flash the HDD LEDs where flashing for ~5min

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

Update: I took the plunge myself and it's working great so far. I got the email working, and did not have to reformat. I can see some interface cahnges but have yet to explorer new / updated features.

EU DNS-323 + US 1.03 FW = so far so good wink

//Patrik

PS. My LEDs were not flashing at all after firmware update was copmplete and I logged in again.

Yeah, I think my flashing LEDs was because the box checked the file system that hasn't been checked since I re-formated from EXT3->EXT2

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

Yes the US-update worked on my EU-box without problems, but AAAARRRRGGGHHHH, the D-Link-guys once again just fixed a couple of the most urgent issues, no additional functionality, what a pity. If they continue  like this it will take another year or more to fix all the points on the open issue list... I´m really thinking about giving this lousys box away...

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

someguy, thanks

That's both good news and bad news.  The good news is a newer kernel.  If I recall correctly, one of the open source iscsi software that I wanted to try required a more recent kernel.

The bad news is, it's a differnet kernel.  That means we need to recompile modules, and possibly recompile a bunch of other things that we may already be running on our dns-323.

I sure hope they release the new sources soon.

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

Upgraded FW this morning from 1.02b ... seems to be working just fine.  I disabled my samba fix for 2+GB issue before performing the flash, so I will try and confirm that this new FW version works as expected.

• NSA-220+ | FW3.23 | 2x WD15EADS “Green” 1.5TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 7200RPM, 32MB | RAID1 | ext3 | External USB: Kingston DT1 2GB Flash Drive ( ffp 0.5 )

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

Update complete on an EU-DNS 323 with 1.02b.

Everything works fine. Even the itunes server. Refreshing the itunes server is working too. Even with thousands of files in the folder.

Did they update the samba version?

Best regard

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

One cool thing I noticed with v1.03 is that the web UI for setting permissions has been fixed in the case when you have one volume that is R/W at the root for a specific user, and then a sub-folder is Read-Only for ALL users.  The previous FW would NOT let you do this complaining that you can't have conflicting permissions set on the same folder (which was not the case!).  On 1.02b you could get around it by making two settings that did not make the error, and then go edit it after it was instantiated.    I don't know why anyone else didn't complain about this anoying issue before -- but I'm glad its fixed!

Re: Firmware 1.03 - Posted

I can now copy files larger than 2GB from Server 2003, and there also seems to have been some improvement in the disk failure sensing - if I eject a drive to simulate a failure, it will now send me an e-mail saying a disk has failed, but still no amber light - with the earlier firmware versions it did neither.

Curiously enough - the daily status email still shows both drives as present - the "failed" drive is also shown in the available shares, but attempts to write to it fail with a device IO error message being returned.

Edit - a restart will remove the drive from the staus screen, but - if the drive were to fail whilst the unit were off, ie, you powered the unit down one day, and powered it on a few days later, and the disk did not power up, the unit would never know that a disk had failed.

I think it would be a good idea to send multiple requests to D-Link support to let them know the users expect D-Link to post the 1.03 sources (they have not posted a source update since Nov. 15, 2006) see http://dns323.kood.org/forum/p2414-Toda … html#p2414 for D-link's response to my query about the 1.03 sources.
