Can't set Read-Only attribute?

Is there any reason I am unable to set the 'Read-Only' attribute on a file?  When I try I get an error dialog "An error occured applying attributes to the file: <<file path>>.  Access is denied"  I've rebooted both the 323, my PC (XP), and ensured I am the only computer using the NAS (i.e. the files are not being held by another device) and the problem persists for any file I attempt to try it on.

Re: Can't set Read-Only attribute?

I'm afraid this is normal, you can't set any of the permissions for files/directories through Windows.  The reason is that the file system is not Windows it is a Linux file system that is then exported to be used by your Windows system.  In other words the permissions have to be set on the DNS323, which is Linux.  You have limited ability to change permissions through the Web page (at folder level).  If you setup to get direct acces to the DNS323 with telnet or ssh you can change permissions on directories/files from there.

Re: Can't set Read-Only attribute?

I got the read only and archive bits to work by following the steps at the BetterSamba Wiki page. http://dns323.kood.org/howto:bettersamba

I updated the "How to Make the Windows 'Archive' Bit Work" section for funplug v0.5, firmware 1.05 and using the Windows read only bit.
