the fan mod is my way around the constant running. i took a rotozip to the back of the chasis and removed the factory opening for the 5v 40mm fan. From there i attached a fan duct from the side panel of a antec sonata case. I think it helps the 80mm fan channel the air better than gluing it straight to the rear panel. I used a 3speed antec (yes blue LED) fan and a 120v>12v adpt. to run the fan at 12v instead of the DNS 5v. no more heat probs, no more "fan noise" probs.
all of this runs through a dlink dgl-4500 gigabit router with wireless N (for the asus eeepc )
i can run the 12v fan on high and never hear it. i think the duct helps keep the air flow noise down. before, it sounded like a small jet was flying around my computer room. i could hear the OEM fan running at night from the other end of the house. problem solved

I was thinking something similar with DSM-G600 but in the top side. Don't really get it why dlink likes these small fans. And DNS-343 has two of them.
This was one of the main reason I did go with NSA-220 recently instead of DNS-323 or 321.

OMG, can you push the Dlink around the desk by varying the speed of the fan?

if i pulled the rubber feet off and put teflon sliders on... plus the additional 3lbs of boost from nascar stickers... maybe a rear wing spoiler to increase downforce... and 1.21 gigawatts to the flux capacitor... the 321 could fly!
no really, its completely quite at 100F all day. ive got a phpBB forum running off of lighttpd, php, and mysql, with frequent ftp access throughout the day, and 3 users at home saving files to it. its a good little worker box.
