DNS 323 - Twonkey Media Server
hi there,
got some problems with my new dlink nas dns-323. after i bought it, i updated the firmware to 1.06 and finally added the funplug script.
after the installation i got the connection via telnet and also via ssh ... i tested both via putty - no problems. so i download the 4.4.11 twonkeyserver especially for my dns 323 and install with the help of the nassetup.exe
i got the username(root) and pw from the tutorial where i installed the funplug script and entered it into the boxes. my nas has the following ip: 192.168.2.141, the host got the 2.132.
the result from the nassetup is, that the app tells me that the server is installed at /mnt/HD_a2/twonky
autostart script at /mnt/HD_a2/starttwonkey.sh and the web interface ist installed correctly with the port 9000 on the ip 192.168.2.141 --> 192.168.2.141:9000 ...
so i go to the root of the hd and couldn't find any twonky files .. no folder, no sh script - nothing ... is there a solution to implement the mediaserver manual? or probably i make some funny mistakes 
...
i am a linux newb so thanks for every help!

i have some news:
sometimes he creates the folders twonky/cgi-bin, twonky/plugins and twonky/resources .. also the starttwonky.sh will be created in the root! but the folders are empty and when i want to create a textfile or something else inside i get an access denied ... perhaps thats the reason why the nassetup can't implement their files to the nas storage?
can anyone help me how to fix it manually?

Hopefully someone else might be able to give you instructions on how to fix twonky. But, and this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I suggest using Mediatomb. I used to run Twonky on a server that I had setup to my TV that I replaced with my NAS. I spent a couple of days working on getting twonky to work properly and in the end couldn't get it (I have linux experience, but I'm not an expert). I followed the guide for mediatomb here: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic. … 90&p=1 and was able to get it running. So far it does pretty much everything twonky did (With a worse interface).

hi folks,
i just solved the problem:
i installed the twonky version 4.4.6 on my dns 323 with the help of the installer. i just copied the files from the install directly on the nas to the twonky folder via telnet and started the server with the starttwonkey.sh in the root.
in my oppinion the 4.4.6 is the best version ... i also can watch my dvds (vob) with wlan!!

@juke, I want to install Twonky for the first time and I read your post.
Didn't you use the "nassetup.exe" from a windows box?
Which files and/or folders from the zip file did you copy to the nas?

Where did you find this version ? I cannot find it on twonky forum site...

Don't know the differences, but I have installed 4.4.18 and it works fine. I can see my photos and videos through my ADSL box without any pb.

Just to add a little bit of info.:
4.4.11 always worked tremendously well on my DNS-323 on everything but my Xbox 360, which just plain old well, instead of tremendously well (there were a few issues with pauses when searching the music folder and also some issues with not all pictures being broadcast).
I just upgraded to 4.4.18, and things on the Xbox 360 are even better. Having never used Firefly (which will soon be replacing the wretched old UPnP server in D-Link's official firmware), I really can't imagine anything capable of running on a wimpy little NAS being any better than Twonky. It's drop-dead simple to install and set up, does a full scan of all my media in less than 5 minutes (~25,000 music files, ~2,300 photos and ~600 videos) and has never become unresponsive or done anything untoward while running on the DNS-323.

I've just upgraded to 4.4.18 and it wipes out any changes to the music tree all the time.
Regression testing is obviously not their forte. :-(
On the plus side, it now uses less than half the memory of my previous version 4.4.9, as I had to increase my max limit for over 20,000 music files.
Not sure whether to stay with this version or go back to the previous version now, as I'd like the navigation options back.?

I guess I never made any changes to the music tree, so I didn't notice this glitch. Bummer!
I think the pros outweigh the cons in this case, though, what with the better memory management and quicker response time I've noticed so far.
