DNS 323 External FTP Problem

Hi All,
I have my DNS323 set up and running (with 1.06) and everything seems to be OK but I am having trouble accessing the FTP server externally / from the internet.

I have started the FTP server via the admin screens, I can access the FTP server via it's IP on my internal network using both IE and Filezilla 3.2.4.1 and the username / password I have set up and can access all directories / files however I cannot access it externally from the internet via my router.

I have left the FTP server on port 21 and have set up the forwarding rule on my router (Belkin F5D8630) and have tested that the port is open using portforward.com's PFPortChecker.exe. I know I am using the correct external IP as I can see my routers home page via IE.

When using IE I get page not found and using FileZilla (with debug mode on) the following is returned:

16:45:14    Status:    Connecting to 90.192.151.97:21...
16:45:14    Status:    Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
16:45:15    Trace:    CRealControlSocket::OnClose(10053)
16:45:15    Trace:    CControlSocket::DoClose(64)
16:45:15    Trace:    CFtpControlSocket::ResetOperation(66)
16:45:15    Trace:    CControlSocket::ResetOperation(66)
16:45:15    Error:    Could not connect to server

I had a search through the forum but could not find a similar issue. Would anyone have any suggestions for next steps to allow me to diagnose the problem?

Thanks / Regards
Tony

Re: DNS 323 External FTP Problem

First - are you trying to test external access from a different location or are you testing from within the same network as the DNS-323 - if you're within the same network your problem may be caused by the Belkin - if it does not support loopback.

If you are at a different location - how is the client connected to the Internet?  If it is behind a consumer style NAT router the problem may be that the NAT router does not properly handle (or "fixup") the incoming ftp data connection - try putting the client computer in the DMZ of the router or connecting it directly to the internet via dialup or similar (anything that will give it a public ip address).

If you're interested, you could PM me the relevant details and I can try to connect for you.
