2 * DNS-321 vs 1 * DNS-343

For anyone thinking about a DNS-343, consider this: for the same money or less, get two DNS-321s.

I installed 2 DNS-321s
- each has  2 Western Digital WD10EADSCN Terabyte drives (really low power and only 5400rpm)
- Both 321s configered as Raid-0 - so each  has 2 Terabytes.
- Installed funplug, of course, following instructions for the DNS-323.
  - Enabled ssh, rsync, mediatomb (for PS3).
  - Disabled telnet.
- For redundancy, I run rsync the second dns321 to replicate the first.
This way I  have protection not only from a single disk failure but also failure of any DNS-321
components.   Not much point in having Raid if the motherboard on the 321 goes.

Notes:
- These things are really slow, but, they are really inexpensive with an amazingly small footprint.
- The specs claim Gigibit ethernet, but they feel more like 10Mb. All in all really cute devices for the money.
- Tried for several hours to get RAID-1 (mirroring) working, always hung.

forgive my ignorance, but how do you get two DNS-321's populated with 2 drives each to look like one big disk?

i guess he means DNS-323 instead.

@daedon. Hardware failure on a DNS-XXX is not a big deal. the data on the drives are in standard linux raid format and can be read on a pc.
