If you want to make the DNS-323 NFS share available to all devices on your
local subnet, you can specify the ip subnet the DNS-323 is using with 0/24 as
the forth octet.

For example, if your DNS-323 is on a 192.168.0.X network  you would specify
192.168.0.0/24 in the host input box on the NFS Network Access Settings GUI.

Really?
After my upgrade, the disk status showed the disk size as being -1MB  (yes, that's a minus) and it could not be accessed from any PCs.  Fortunately, I had a backup so I was able to reformat and restore that backup to the DNS-323.

Also, If any Dlink folk are reading this, the daylight saving settings only allow daylight saving to begin and end in the same calendar year. In the southern hemisphere (eg Australia), daylight saving begins in October but ends in April the next year. The calendar in the "Time" settings only shows the current year so the end date for daylight saving cannot be entered.

My disk size also showed up as -1mb after going from 1.07 to 1.08, but after i reset to defaults and powered it down and on again it's ok now.

One thing that i also noticed was that i saved my settings just after going to 1.08, then i reset my defaults, but when i loaded my settings back in and after a restart they were still default settings, so it was'nt loading up my settings at all.

The other thing i'm not sure about is while watching a film last night it seems to be only one of my disk activity lights were going, is this normal ?

The last thing is my ps3 can't see anything on the nas now with upnp server enabled and running a refresh ?

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

The 1.08 firmware release notes mention:

"33. Add Support for: OGG, FLAC, MKV, APE, IFO, ISO, AAC, DIVX, M4A."

Does this mean Upnp server supports these formats? I upgraded the firmware but on my Samsung LN52B750 I still can't see .iso files, I can see and play .avi files.

I however cannot fast forward or pause the video, on the same TV when I stream from WMP11 I can pause the video.

I will try refreshing the database on DNS-323 and see if .iso show up.

Also there seems to be a bug in UPnP server when I try to view anything like photos music or video it shows 3 folders all by the name Videos but if I go one level down and come back up, it shows them correctly as Videos, Photos and Music, this doesn't happen with WMP or Tversity.

The other media servers are also much faster than DNS323..unfortunately to use the other servers I will have to keep a computer on which I don't want to do (waste of power).

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

I and running DNS-323 with standard configuration (never trust RAID1 again after one of my HDD just totally failed but luckily got replacement due to 3 yrs warranty) and hence I created a crontab.sh script to schedule rsync to sync from Vol_1 to Vol_2 every early morning ( a kind of manual RAID maybe :-)). It run perfectly as I mentioned HERE. using instruction from http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1150.

But this F/W 1.08 is very unfriendly toward my crontab. The new crontab commands just can not get into the list after reboot.

Anyone manage to have their crontab script running using F/W1.08?

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Serial Number Proposal

This is another thought for D-Link out there
Just as you did not appear to think through the Southern hemisphere daylight saving, the idea of checking disc serial numbers may similarly not work out the way you think it might.
I may be off in the wrong direction as you did not elaborate, but if I explain the way I work it may take you in a different direction re serial numbers.
My current method of backing up is to have a DNS-323 with live data.  According to how much is used and hence data changed this is periodically backed up / synchronised to another DNS-323.  This is turn is backed up / synchronised onto a third DNS say once a month.  The discs inside are then archived off site to be replaced with those discs from offsite.  So every month or thereabouts the offsite discs are swapped out.
With the original firmware, I formatted all my discs to ext3.  On firmware upgrade I had to back up everything; then reformat to ext2.  At the time I was running a mirrored array.  When I decided to break the mirror, I was forced to format them again*.  Going to firmware 1.06 for some reason again kept telling me my discs were degraded, pink leds the lot.  I eventually gave in and reformatted.
The formatting is NOT the problem.  It is the days and days copying back the terabytes of data that is giving me a pain in the bottom.  I have already spent too much of my 323 life doing this.
I see FW 1.08 is going back to ext3 and it is serial number checking.  From the above, the future does not look good if every time I change discs I am forced to reformat and copy back.

* yes I know there is a break array programme for download on this site but I did not try it as it was too difficult to work out how to do it telnetting in and so on and having everything backed up what's the point?
** someone had the answer to this - stop upgrading your firmware - in retrospect you were right.  That is why I am leery about going to 1.08.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

I think your interpretation and mine on serial numbers is very different. I completely understand your disk swapping scenario.

We are not planning to HOLD the serial number and make sure they match up all the time with the device, this is simply a checks and balance for when the device is presented with a new disk that it will try to match serial numbers before officially formatting the disk ( to avoid formatting the WRONG disk ).

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Ah, understood.  And thank you for that.
Clearly you can see the way I interpreted things.  That is a worry off of my mind.
For info, I always pull the other disc before formatting.

Sorry forgot to mention i'm running in raid 1 mode, when i copy files to the dlink both drive lights are going together (as it should), but while watching a film from the dlink only one drive light is going ? I guess it does'nt read from both drives, only one of the raid drives ? not sure though...

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Since the upgrade my XBOX 360 will no longer play MP4's.  After a rescan it doesn't even show them anymore...  Also I tried a MKV and it did not detect either.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

There is the strong possibility that MKVs still won't play as the format is not supported by the 360. Its probably being shared correctly, and if there was something out there that supported MKV then it would show up.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

After refresh of the DB the .iso files also show up, however they don't play - Format not supported, I am not sure who does the decoding the server or the client.
.ts files play fine (1080i ripped file)

There was an issue where the PNP server stopped showing up on the TP..restarting the NAS fixed the issue, could be due to Beta firmware

The server does zero decoding. Everything is streamed and all decoding must be done on the client side. If your media player does not support ISO's it will not work.

So far it seem people have confirmed that NFS server works.

But has anyone confirmed that it works properly with EXT3 and in particular corrects the filesystem corruption bug identified in http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic. … 630#p22630

This bug caused me *endless* pain and I believe is related to a bug in the old EXT3 implementation.

In other words has the kernel been updated beyond 2.6.12 and/or the EXT3 been fixed or did someone just turn back on EXT3 as an option?

Thanks - I just would like some details here before I upgrade the firmware and risk corrupting data again.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Thanks Dlink...is there any software UPnP client using which I can test DNS323 server and make sure iso playback issue is at the client end.

I was also trying to install ilink media server but fun_plug .5 doesn't seem to work on 1.08, I copied fun_plug and fun_plug.tgz files to Volume1 and rebooted but I am not able to telnet or ssh to the box (tried using telnet to the IP), I haven't tried older versions of fun plug just want to check if others have been able to install fun_plug on 1.08 firmware

it works fine here you must have done something else then just upgradeing the firmware.

First user to fun_plug the dns-323.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

What I realized was after upgrade my disks wouldn't spin down as expected. More precisely only disk one went into standby but disk 0 never did.
I am using two Seagat 500 GB drives and running ffp from an attached USB drive.
After downgrading to 1.7 the disk powered off as usual.

D-Link can you confirm whether the EXT3 and/or nfs kernel drivers were fixed?
Because if not, then I fear that there still will be a major corruption when nfs and EXT3 are both turned on.

We have to replicate something before we can fix it. As of right now I have no data supporting that it is infact causing corruption. On the other hand NFS seems to be causing the system to lockup ever so often so probably need to fix one beta bug before extensive testing.
