D-Link can you confirm whether the EXT3 and/or nfs kernel drivers were fixed?
Because if not, then I fear that there still will be a major corruption when nfs and EXT3 are both turned on.

We have to replicate something before we can fix it. As of right now I have no data supporting that it is infact causing corruption. On the other hand NFS seems to be causing the system to lockup ever so often so probably need to fix one beta bug before extensive testing.

The way I replicated it was to run operations that repeatedly access (and list) a number of directories. After a while, the directory listing starts having missing entries. It's as if it the directory listing is buffered somewhere and then gets corrupted or cut off. This happens to me when repeatedly listing a series of long directories manually (or when running a backup program like BackupPC). While the actual files don't get directly corrupted (they are still there since only the listing is corrupted), the end effect is that corruption occurs since the directory listing is wrong and/or the contained files/directories can't be accessed properly.

The effect is repeatable for me with EXT3 turned on but never happens with EXT2. I haven't had any lockup of the nfs server even though I have been running without reboot for the past 6 months (though I am using the 1.05 version of the firmware with my own custom compiled kernel with the nfs server turned on as a module).

If you didn't make any major changes to the kernel itself other than turning on & compiling some new modules, I would expect that the problem still persists.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Well, finally got around to upgrade the DNS-323 with two new drives, WD15EADS-00R6B0 (1.5tb), and after trying out the disks with 1.07 firmware I upgraded to 1.08. No problem with the upgrade and all my old settings worked without any problems; users, etc was intact. Re-formated the RAID1 volume with EXT3 and everything went on smooth and currently restoring 500gb of backup to the unit.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Another comment on the 1.08 firmware upgrade experience (in addition to the Daylight Saving bug which I previously noted).

I decided to use the DNS-323 backup capability to automatically backup folders from one of my PCs. Whilst the backup itself worked fine, I subsequently noticed that the creation dates on all files within the selected folders are saved to the DNS-323 with the current date and time (ie everything has the same creation date and time rather than the date and time properties associated with those files on the actual PC).

Tradionally, backups retain the original file creation dates and times. Failure to do that significantly diminshes the usefulness of the backup so I hope that Dlink can address this problem prior to release of the final 1.08 version.

Has anyone else noticed this or care to comment on it?

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Minor flaw, but worth mentioning and needed to fixed (shouldn't be that hard); but when running with an UPS (APC Back-UPS CS 350) the System log doesn't hold any entries of power failure or entries when running on battery power only.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

I am currently using 1.05. Will the upgrade to 1.08 causes funplug to go spoof? I have some customizes stuffs done on funplug like boot issue fix and other things which I already forgot. And I would not want to redo funplug all over again.

I too would like to know how to install these packages.  I had a go but it defeated me.
Easysearch 4700; configuration; applications and then what?
I tried the bit-torrent but at that point it becomes a mystery.
It really does not want to go to any subdirectories.   And schedule and ???

yes but don't forgot to re-enable telnet before. I have forgotten and then I couldn't access to my dns-323 with ssh.

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

I see in the screenshots the Firefly Mediaserver.

I use Twonky, but it does not support Windows Media Streams (asx webradio).
Does anybody know if Firefly installed on DNS-323 does?
And ifso, how do I add a webradio station?

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

According to the RFC for DHCP/Bootp :

Code:

Support of BOOTP clients by a DHCP server is optional at the discretion of the local system administrator.

Is there a way to enable that Bootp support with the DHCP server currently on the DNS-323 ? Or does this new FW have the support now ? (I know from testing on our current FW version, 1.05,  that it does not support bootp clients sad).

TIA  smile

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Re 323_E-Mail_Alert@mydomain.com
Can someone tell me where this email is setup and how to delete it??  I see that it automatically picks up the domain that I created with my own email address, but I have no clue where or how this email address (323_E-Mail_Alert@mydomain.com) got created and it keeps giving me an error message when it cannot send it.   I cannot find it appearing anywhere in the Webserver setup......

Any ideas?

Anyone manage to have their crontab script running using F/W1.08?

I have the same problem, switching to 1.08 was a breeze and it works nice,
but I am not really happy about loosing crontab functionality.

Is that issue addressed by dlink?

Cheers

Silly q but how do we do that?
By the way, after upgrading to 1.08 the fun_plug script won't be able to work and needs re-installation?

There's a simple trick to do this. See 'Reactivating telnet.' near the section end of http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp#the_root_user

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

I have upgraded both my DNS-323 to the latest beta of v1.08 and the ssh survived the upgrade, did not have to enable the telnet.

Thanks for the info.
Will the fun_plug script be affected from this? will it need re-installation ?
I suppose not...

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Upgrade to 1.08 worked like a charm and fortunately no ssh access was affected :-)

Sorry for bugging but (obviously) I am a newbie.
How do I enable the NFS server? it's not available in my box with 1.08
Also what about FireFly/bittorrent and the other addons that i see here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/dns323owner … 8835027554

What is the procedure to enable them?

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Apparently, they disabled NFS in the current beta build because of instability.  I think it caused the whole unit to lock up after a few hours.

You can find the Firefly, bittorrent, Bonjour, etc. add-ons here:  ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/ (navigate to /Beta/Apps/)

Thanks a lot.. I installed them via the web interface pretty easy and looks clean.
However when I start the Firefly server, I press the Launch iTunes interface and I get a popup that it's starting and... that's about it..
Is there any additional step that I am missing here?
I tried to connect via web in case the firefly interface has started (in port 3869) but it was a no go..
Any ideas?

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

I'm sorry, I don't have any help for you with regards to Firefly, as I have Twonky installed on my DNS-323.

Perhaps over in the beta forum for the DNS-323 over on D-Link's boards you could fine your answer:  http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?board=251.0

Re: DNS-323 Firmware Version 1.08

Anyone having trouble with the BitTorrent plugin after upgrading to Beta5? I tried upgrading the add-on after upgrading to Beta5, it asks if I want to replace the module, I say "OK", it does the "Install Module swirly thing", and refreshes. However, the add-on does not appear in the "Add-ons Summary". Anyone else seeing this?
