Does updating the firmware risk any data loss?

Hi,

I am running firmware 1.06 & I see theres a 1.07 & a 1.08 beta.  If i go from 1.06 to 1.07, do I risk any data loss?

Thanks,
Rich

Re: Does updating the firmware risk any data loss?

Updating firmware always has some risk involved - a power outage or network failure at the wrong moment can bring your hardware, and this is not just as it related to the DNS-323, but to any device with upgradeable firmware - if you value the data, you have to back it up.

Having said that, I have upgraded from 1.06 to 1.07 and to 1.08 beta with no problem or loss of data.

Re: Does updating the firmware risk any data loss?

Just upgraded from 1.06 to 1.08 beta today and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. I think the only upgrade that *required* a reformat was from 1.03 to 1.04, due to a file system change.

Re: Does updating the firmware risk any data loss?

The original poster didn't actually specify a "re-format", but rather, the risk of data loss, which as I mentioned is always present in a firmware upgrade.

If we're going to look at whether or not a re-format was required then there were two upgrades that need to be considered - the 1.02 > 1.03, when support for ext3 was removed, if you were using ext3 prior to the upgrade a reformat would have been required (if you were using ext2 it was not) and the 1.03 > 1.04 that you mention.
