Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I found this tiny version of squeezecenter: http://code.google.com/p/squeezed/
I have no experience with compiling, but i would like to try this on my nas.
Someone willing to give it a go?

seems you need the taglib, first. http://developer.kde.org/~wheeler/taglib.html
PS: Here you go: http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0. … tml#taglib

I've made a package of squeezed, but didn't test it.

well it is running, on the webinterface i see a listing of the musicdirectory, my SB3 finds the server on the ch3snas but the SB3 does not respond at all to remote control inputs.

Any luck? I can only get it to run with an ssh session via putty remaining open. When i close the putty session, squeezed also stops working.

run it in background then.
look for example in other /ffp/start scripts.

my SB3 hangs displaying "Now playing" screen and doesn't respond to remote.
server displays remote commands on the console.

Same situation here. Accepts the DNS-323 as squeezecenter and but hangs at now playing.
I downloaded http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0. … l#squeezed
Did a normal install.
/mnt/HD_a2/ffp/var/squeezed # more squeezed.ini
[config]
path = /mnt/HD_a2/Share/Music/
[musicDB]
dbFile = SqueezeD.db
dbIdx = SqueezeD.idx
path = .
[shout]
maxConnections = 10
port = 9000
[slim]
port = 3483
I installed taglib 1.5 also.
I dropped the ini files into /ffp/var/squeezed
/mnt/HD_a2/ffp/bin # ls sq*
sqlite3 squeezed
/mnt/HD_a2/ffp/bin # cd /ffp/var/squeezed
/mnt/HD_a2/ffp/var/squeezed # ls
SqueezeD.db SqueezeD.idx slimIPC.ini squeezed.ini
/mnt/HD_a2/ffp/var/squeezed # ls -al

Has anyone had success and would be able to supply instructions? Thanks and help much appreciated.
Greetings from Downunder...

No instructions to help you solve the problem. But i found a nice solution.
I bought a Sheevaplug for just $99, (www.plugcomputer.org), this is a tiny linux computer (1,2 Ghz processor, 512mb ram), consumes in idle less than 3 watt, 4-5 watt when maxed out. Runs squeezecenter perfectly, my musicfiles are still on the nas.

Thanks for the tip. Doesn't seem to be avail in Australia yet.
Just so I understand it correctly: Did you load the standard squeezecenter onto the sheevaplug and then connect the sheevaplug to the dns via usb? Or is it just part of your network? I can see on the picture the sheeva has a usb and a network plug.
Squeezed on my DNS still seems a great solution though so hopefully someone can provide some instructions for it. by the way. Love the squeezebox boom, really good sound and the internet radio part is great also.
Thanks a billion

You can only order it in the States via this site http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/ … it-us.aspx
Yes you load SC on the plug, good instructions are on the squeezecenter wiki. Then i mounted the nas via the network using nfs onto the sheevaplug. You can also use samba for that. The usb plug is for connecting a usb harddrive or printer or a hub with both.
The sheevaplug community created an installer which makes it very easy to load the operating system (ubuntu 9.04 by default) onto the plug or a inserted SD-card. This last option gives you more space than the internal 512mb flash.

Great, will try and order one but still don't come with Aussie plug and power so will look ugly on the wall....will let you know if I make progress with 'squeezed' while I wait for the sheeva to arrive.
Not giving up on squeezed quite yet...maybe the almighty fonz can help re squeezed ???
Thanks...

You don't need the plug, it comes also with a extension cord. It accepts both 110 and 220 volts

Sorry, I haven't even tried squeezed. I don't expect much from it, the google code page of squeezed doesn't show any updates since June 9th. Maybe it's abandoned?

just wanted to give you all an update:
I ended up throwing the towel in the ring and installed the full squeezecenter on the dns-323 but it almost brings my dns to a halt and squeezebox player is very sluggish with pulling songs down over wifi...it's also not that stable as webserver :9000 sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
If that wasn't enough to put you off the full squeezecenter and dns-323 combo then please be aware that the disk chugs away 24/7 with squeeecenter even if you don't play music ....I've seen a usb install solution regarding the disk issue but for me that won't work because my UPS plugs into the dns usb so that slot is taken......so if anyone can the the tiny brother of squeezecenter to work namely 'squeezed' then this is still the better solution.
I also have xbmc on the xbox playing movies of the dns and also of course i also have transmission 1.75 running on dns which works really really well but looks like squeezecenter's footprint kills the dns
ps: ffp from fonz made this all possible. It really makes the dns a better box. thanks a billion fonz !

You're welcome. And you're right, the full squeezecenter software is a torture on the dns-323. If you can avoid it, it's better to not use the web interface. I'd love to see someone with too much time making squeezed work, or coming up with another implementation that can replace the offical software.
