Dear friends,
I want to get your help in order to learn how to improve the performance in my home LAN. I would like to know if the Jumbo Frame could be a solution. Any advice ??
Currently, I have the following devices:
- PlayStation 3 (firmware 2.76)
- DLink DIR-655 Wireless Gigagit Router (firmware 1.31)
- DLink DNS-323 Storage (firmware 1.07)
- Linksys EG005W Gigabit Switch (new version)
- Other wireless devices like portable computers, iPod Touch, iPhone
The network topology of my home LAN looks like this:
{ INTERNET }
||
||
[ Cable Modem ]
||
||
{ Wireless Router }
|| || ||
[ PS3 ]----|| || ||---{ WiFi Devices }
||
[ Gigabit Swtich*]----||
|| ||
[ PC ]----|| ||
||
[ DNS-323 ]--||
* NOTE = Switch, PC and DNS-323 are located in a different room in the house.
Regards!

Jumbo frame will only improve performance between the PC and the DNS-323, and that is presuming that the switch and the PC both support jumbo frame.
MOST IMPORTANT - with jumbo frame you will only see a significant improvement in performace if transferring large data files, with small files and applications such as streaming there will be no improvement.

I might offer the suggestion to make sure that your cables operate at gig speeds.
Just because they are cat5,cat6,etc -- does not mean the cable works correctly at gig speeds. Fluorescent lights, electric motors, and printers near your cables seriously eff up the speed.
