Not accessible-Windows 7

Hi,
Have a W7 Client which is cannot access a working 323.
The message I get, "You might not have permission to use the network resource" and, "The account is not authorized to log in from this Station".
Anyone any ideas what I need to do?

(All other clients, mixture of Xp/Vista and Linux boxes have no problems).

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

I don't have a solution for you but I can confirm that I have the same problem:

The ip address of my DNS-323 is 192.168.0.55. When I try to access it on W7 with \\DNS323 it fails but I can access it with \\192.168.0.55 with no problem. It seems that somehow W7 cannot resolve the address. I even tried to add the ip and the name to my LMHOSTS file but it didn't help either. Weird. The funny thing is that I could access it with a name on W7 for a long time and it is only recently (i.e. 2~3 weeks) that I have this problem.

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

Hi and thanks,

My symptoms are identical - even down to it previously being just fine.

I'm going to go back and start from scratch with a new W-7 install and see if it's something in one of the updates thats changed something.

Good luck,

Colin

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

To confuse things I have no trouble accessing the DNS-323 from windows 7. I treat it the same way I did with vista. I've turned on the feature that lets vista see the box properly and created a set of permissions to match vista log in usernames/passwords. (build 7217... i think)

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

Hi,

Have figured out what was causing this:
Windows Live Sign-In Assistant changes security settings on installation, removing this and DNS-323 access is just fine1

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

Colin I tried what you discovered and it worked! It is incredible, how did you find out about it?
To others who may have the same problem: you can uninstall the "windows live sign-in assistant" throught the normal unistall programs option in the control panel. It is not an essential element of the Windows and you can continue to sing-in in live or other MS sites without it.

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

Well,
I figured that as it was working fine on first set-up, it must have been something like an update on W7.
I made a note of what I had, then started working through each of them; removing each in turn until I found the wrong-un!

Glad it helped,

Colin

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

Leaving the homegroup did the trick for me. I've got only 1 W7 pc at home now, so it's no use enabling it anyway.

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

rb338: how did you "leave" the homegroup? I didn't find any option to turn it off.

Re: Not accessible-Windows 7

In the networking properties I clicked on homegroup and simply chose "leave homegroup". It's not hidden or anything. I can't tell you exactly where to look because I'm at work now smile
