Serial Port on DNS-323 HW version C1

Could someone attach the serial port on the DNS-323 hardware revision C1 ?

I couldn't found the connector on the board.
In another HW revision (I don't remember which), there is a header in the middle of the board where I could connect a TTL - Rs232 converter. The procedure to do this is in the DNS-323 wiki.

I couldn't found how to do the same with this hardware revision.

One of the underside would be nice.

There are two sets of pads in the front right corner - the large is 2x5, the smaller is 1x4 and might be the one you're looking for - lay the board on an insulated surface, power it up and check the voltage on the pins, see if you can locate which is ground & +3.3V

Re: Serial Port on DNS-323 HW version C1

hi,

I got also a C1 revision and try to connect via a serial port. I bought a simple multimeter and gauged.

Black connector = COM
Red Connector = V

I gauge the following http://img192.yfrog.com/i/cimg0004c.jpg/ :

RED on A

A + B = 3,25v
A + D = 0
A + F = 0
A + H = 3,25
A + J = 3,25

If black on A, I have the same results, but with "-3,25" (minus/negative)

Red on 1

1 + 2 = 0
1 + 3 = 0
1 + 4 = 3,3

So, where can i found the ground? Is that 1 and A?

Re: Serial Port on DNS-323 HW version C1

Hi,

I have successfully attached a serial console to my rev. C1. The pinout is the same as with the older revisions. See: http://dns323.kood.org/hardware:serial Indeed the serial port is the group of 4 aligned pads and it turns out that the numbering on the picture you attached is correct since as usual the square pad is pin #1 so to sum up it goes like this:

Pin#
1          Vcc (3.3V)                                            square pad
2          serial data out from DNS-323              next round pad
3          serial data in to DNS-323                    next round pad
4          GND                                                     next round pad

Connection parameters are the same as with the other revisions: 115200 8,N,1

Remember that it uses 3.3V logic so do not attempt to use a 5V serial adapter! I have found a nice 3.3V adapter on eBay that fits into a DB-9 connector, you can attach anything you like to it. I have used RJ-11 to interface to the DNS-323 as it uses precisely 4 wires.

The 2x5 pad group next to it is for the JTAG connection. I suppose it is also the same pinout as with older revisions.

I hope this helps!

Best regards.
