Possible to use the USB port on DNS 323 as direct attach storage?

Hi, I am a newbie to DNS 323 so I wonder if it is possible to use the USB port at the back and connect as DAS?
I searched but only found it can be modified to connect external storage.

I have a media player (non-network) which can only connect USB device (portable HD, external DVD drive or jump drive), so it will be nice if I can connect to the DNS 323 as both NAS and DAS.
