I am just looking at purchasing a DNS-323 and was just wondering if anyone has any idea how much the server is capable of pushing out. I have an XBMC and WDTV live that both use Samba to access video and I also have an Xbox 360 that would use uPnP, do you think it would be a problem if all three machines were trying to access video files off the NAS at the same time. I have a gigabit network set up so I don't think network performance would be an issue, more of concern is the read speeds of the Dlink 323.
Thanks for any help.

You should be able to do two at a time (xvids) but any more is pushing it I think.

Is the file server significantly lighter than using a Windows machine( for simplicity, assuming I'm only using SATA 1 on the windows)? Basically I'm curious if the limiting factor in serving the files is the CPU or the disk speed?
Thanks again.

Well its certainly not the disks. Your limiting factors are network speed and the cpu.
I love my DNS323, its on 24/7 runs BitTorrent and streams my own and my wifes show to our computer or the Xbox 360. I will actually try to stream a few at once. Now that I think about it the DNS323 may have only started to chugg when I was extracting something on it or working on it. You can install a chrooted Debian install on it you know.

Ran 3 videos (xvid) at once, no problem. Transmission was running banging away in the background too.

Thanks Kramed! That's exactly what I was looking for.
I'll probably pick one up this weekend. The next step will be to see how far I can push it with 720p/1080p movies, etc. I'll post here once I have some results.
