Don't have choice to use ext3

I have hardware revision C1 running with firmware 1.07.

When I format new drives, there is no option to ext3.

I've been using linux ince 1995, so I have a fair idea as to why ext3 is better.

Is there a way around this, maybe once I telnet in I can change things there.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

ext3 was removed from the early firmware versions due to corruption issues - it has been reintroduced in firmware 1.08 which should be released early next week (Tuesday)

I downloaded firmware revision 1.08 for hardware revision A (thanks for the help in the other post), from

http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/Download/d … e=Firmware

When I check firmware it tells me

    Current Firmware Version :       1.08
    Firmware Date :                         08/05/2009

So when you say "1.08 should be released early next week", maybe you mean something else or maybe the Australian site is incorrect or something. I don't know.

Anyway, after installing the 1.08 that I got ahold of, I could re-format the drives as ext3.

Thanks

Sorry - maybe I should have been more specific - D-Link USA is slated to release 1.08 next week, I wasn't aware that D-Link Australia already had it out.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

You downloaded the 1.08BETA version, the 1.08 final dated 2010 is being posted this week apparently.

Couldnt find the 1.09 beta on either the australian or US sites.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

The 1.09 beta is up on the US site - there is a link to it in the D-Link beta forum - or at least it was up to earlier today, that's what I am currently running.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

May I also jump in and ask for pointers? Just bought my second DNS-323 today, upgraded fw to 1.08 (the other one still running on 1.06), and hoped for a select box ext2 / ext3... no such thing happened. Do I need to reset to defaults after fw upgrade? Would rather not go through all the config again if there's an alternative.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

You have to reformat to obtain ext3 with DLINK firmware.
Else, use ffp to telnet into the box, install the e2fsprogs package and upgrade your ext2 to ext3 with the following command:

Code:

# tune2fs -j /dev/sda2

And so on for each partition (sda4,sdb2,sdb4).
After a reboot your partitions should be ext3.

!!! Do not try that without making backups though !!!

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

Reformat is fine by me. What I was asking was whether it was possible to reformat to ext3 via the web gui? Tried reformatting after an upg to 1.08 but didn't see any options.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

Yes you can - go Tools/RAID/set RAID type and reformat and select your RAID type click next and it will prompt you for the file system type.

Re: Don't have choice to use ext3

Thanks fordem, that did the trick. What's strange is that I had to shut down and start the box again after updating the firmware - the reboot that's part of the upgrading process still yielded the old screen (ie. w/o filesystem prompt) despite "1.08" in the upper right corner of the browser screen... Anyhow, it's all good to go now! :-)
