Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

After fudging with EXT3 and only just now dicovering I'm not the only person with phantom file disappearance-reappearance, I'm struggling to reformat to EXT only because I can't recall my admin password. Tried the unit reset button. Will try that again.
I'd like to know:
1: How to reset the unit swo I can access configuration.
2: how to flash it with the newest Firmware provided by D-Link
Thanks for helping a n00b out.

P.S. Also intriguied by thoes of you able to run various other distro of *nix on it. Good on that.

I think someone said that you need to keep the reset button pressed for a few seconds. I have no idea what that will do to the admin password, though. If that fails: As long as you can copy files to the drives, you can install a funplug with telnet server. Then open a telnet connection and run "passwd admin". Nevertheless should you reformat to ext2, since ext3 is no longer supported by recent firmware versions.

Planning on reformatting to ext2, that's how I discovered I'd forgotten the password. I did hold it down a couple of seconds, no luck though. I might try the funplug route. Hmm.

Installing a funplug still requires having admin access. Circular problem here. Drat.

Hi, the same thing happened to me once. I solved it by getting the /etc/.shadow file from the DNS-323 and cracking it using jacktheripper. It took around 30 minutes to crack it I think.
I was lucky and had funplug telnet access already, so I obtained the .shadow file that way. I guess you'll have to take one of the disks out and get the file using some ext2 fs software like the one mentioned in another thread here...
Good luck! ;-)

If you want to try what elekfunk suggests, here's a link to a thread I started about an Ext2 installable file system option for Windows.

Good luck.
