PS3 + 323 and upnp

Finally the Playstation 3 can access network storage devices with firmware 1.80.  This makes the 323 a perfect place to store everything media related in the home..

The PS3 finds the 323 (FW 1.03 + 400mb x2 segate) on my network, however no media is discovered by the PS3.  "refresh" under the upnp 323 config area does nothing but take alot of time and does not enable the PS3 to see any media.

I've seen other people talking about a program in windows which allows upnp to work with the 323, but has anyone gotten the 323 and PS3 to talk like they're supposed to?

Re: PS3 + 323 and upnp

The standard AV media server is not very good.

There is a version of TwonkyMedia for the DNS-323, and although you have to pay (around 30$) its free for 30 days to play. It also comes with its own installation package, and very simple to use

I use this currently and works VERY well with the PS3, all photos, music, and MPEG1 MPEG2 videos.

There are seperate posts regarding Twonky Media, I would advise you read them first for further info.

yup, look for the Twonky media thread - I'm leaning towards that as a PS3 solution as well.

I have the same results as you from using PS3 with the DNS-323's media server - it's detected but it contains no media (no matter what folder it's pointed to).

Re: PS3 + 323 and upnp

Although the twonky media solution would work, I have trouble paying for something that is supposed to be an open standard (upnp)..  yet at the same time $30 is not that much to spend at the end of the day..

I feel like in the next few months that something will come along that will fix the communications between the ps3 and 323 (firmware update on either system, or user hacks) and will be free.

In searches on the twonky site I found this link that's been a helpful 323 resource:
http://www.shadowandy.net/_html/archives/tech/dns323/

There may be some freware upnp software that we can use to do this too.. time to keep searching..
