Hi All,
I'm making a Backup of my data on my DNS-323 since I'm planning to upgrade my firmware to 1.08 (by the way, this takes ages... how do you guys copy 300+ Gigs of data as fast as possible). Because of the Back-up, I consider to change my disk configuration. I now have 2x 320GB in RAID-1 (a single Volume). I actually only care about my photo's, all other files are less important for me. Therefore I consider to put 100Gb in RAID-1 and the rest in JBOD. I guess this is possible?
What I'm wondering now is what happens if one drive fails and needs to be replaced. For example, i replace one 320Gb disk by a 1Tb disk. Is the RAID-1 100Gb volume restored on the new disk and the other 900Gb added to the JBOD volume automically?
Thanks,
Anton

It is possible - however - when a drive fails there is no way to recover the JBOD partition without a reformat, so NO the 900GB will just disappear.

I don't care about the JBOD part. That may get lost. As long as the RAID-1 Volume rebuilds, even if the new disk has another size.
So i guess it's safe to go for this set-up.
Thanks!

I had a mixed config as well. I started out with Raid 1 with the hard drives the same size, then upgraded one of the hard drives. It automatically converted my config to Raid 1 + JBOD (for the rest of the space on the larger drive). I then upgraded the second drive (so now they are both the same size, but bigger), and it threw away the JBOD portion. My system is syncing now, so I have to wait and see if I get a Raid 1 that is the size of the larger drives.

As far as I know, you don't.
