Hello
I have just bought a DNS 323 server. It works well (ffp with minidlna rocks).
Nevertheless I still have an issue.
I use to mount samba shares automatically using fstab
//192.168.0.1/Volume_1 /mnt/NAS-secureVolume1 cifs user,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,credentials=/etc/samba/auth.192.168.0.1.lolo 0 0
//192.168.0.1/Volume_2 /mnt/NAS-unsecureVolume2 cifs user,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,credentials=/etc/samba/auth.192.168.0.1.lolo 0 0
I can write or transfer any files in both shares (it means, no access rights issue).
Here is the problem :
let's say I create a text file with kate and save it to /mnt/NAS-secureVolume1. Here it is ok.
But, when I modify the file (with kate for example), I can not save the file : when I push the "save file" button I have an error message (the document has not been saved because it is not possible to write in /mnt/NAS-secureVolume1)... Very strange since just a few seconds before I was able to write in /mnt/NAS-secureVolume1 ! And if I save the file with a new name, it works...
It looks like the file is locked.
Same behavior with OO.org, vi, joe...
Do you have any idea where is the problem ?
Thanks

I can't tell you what the specific problem is, but I CAN tell you I had it too.
From your mount points and fstab mention, it looks to me like you're using Linux on your workstation. True? If so, what distribution and what version?
I'm using Ubuntu, and I had the same problem, but I don't any more.
I keep my MP3 collection on a NAS drive using the DNS-323, and I was using EasyTag to do some maintenance. I couldn't modify and save files over the old ones. And like you, if I gave them new names, no problem. And I confirmed the problem using plain ol' text files with gedit.
I thought it might be a samba problem, so I installed and used NFS via ffp. Same problem.
So I eventually got used to the idea of copying a working set of files over to a local drive, doing my modifications, and copying them back.
At some point the problem went away. I don't remember how I noticed, but now it's no problem re-saving modified files. At least over NFS.
Strange. I didn't change ANYTHING on the DNS-323 (same firmware, same ffp, same settings). But I have been upgrading my Ubuntu distribution, so perhaps something changed there.
I'm currently running an up-to-date version of Ubuntu 9.10, 64-bit. When I first noticed the problems occurring, I was probably running 9.04 or 8.10 or 8.04, I'm not certain.
But in any case, no problem now. I hope this helps you track it down.
