Is there any way to change the smtp port number on a DNS-321 v. 1.03
to something other than 25? I'd like to do it w/o installing other software.
The setup screen for email alerts does not prompt for port number on the
DNS-321.

I believe you'll need to upgrade the firmware - it is possible to specify the SMTP port in later versions, if you check the change lists you should be able to determine which version first allowed it.
1.03 also has several bugs that have been resolved in later versions, the current 'stable' release is 1.08, and 1.09 is out in beta.

Thanks for your prompt reply. D-Link's web site shows 1.03 to be the latest firmware for the DNS-321. Is 1.08 for the 323 compatible with the 321? Am I likely to brick my 321 with the 323 firmware?

Whoops - sorry - I didn't realise you were asking about a DNS-321. No the DNS-323 firmware is not suitable for the 321, and I can't comment on the SMTP ports for the 321
