Windows XP and NFS

Hi All,
I've read many posts about trying to setup an NFS connection between windows XP and the DNS, however nothing that really helped.
Firstly, i have NFS setup already on my DNS and use it to stream media to my WDTV live media player. It works great.
On XP, I've installed 'Window services for unix'.
Showmount -e nas_IP shows

Exports list on nas:
/mnt/HD_a2/Share                     <anon clnt>, 192.168.0.10/24

rpcinfo -p nas_IP shows

   program version protocol     port
--------------------------------------------------
    100000       2      tcp      111            portmapper
    100003       3      udp     2049    nfs
    100003       3      tcp      2049    nfs
    100005       1      udp     2049    mountd
    100005       3      udp     2049    mountd
    100005       1      tcp      2049    mountd
    100005       3      tcp      2049    mountd

The problem happens when i try to map a drive in windows explorer to
192.168.0.10:/mnt/HD_a2/Share

Windows brings message:
"NFS Login Successful"
You are currently logged in as:
Username: LAPTOP\User1
UID:0
Primary GID: 0
Choose Yes to accept the current login ...

When i click YES, windows explorer locks UP and crashes and twice i have crashed the unfsd program on the NAS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Re: Windows XP and NFS

Hi Again,  installed "Omin NFS-Client" on windows XP machine.

Export file looks like this:

/mnt/HD_a2/Tom/TV 192.168.1.101(rw,no_root_squash)

I have added my windows IP and xp computer name to /etc/hosts & can ping the xp computer name from nas.

In the NFS-Client s/w i can see the exported directories ok. I can mount them ok with UID/GID = 0/0 and i can use windows explorer to open the mounted network drive [eg E:]. Windows explorer tells me the correct information about HDD space used.

However when i open E: i see no files or folders. If i try to create a directory i get "access denied".

It must be a permissions thing. All the files / folders on my NAS are owned by root. I though that by using the no_root_squash option that would work.

Any tips ? Anything ?
Thankyou !
