Rookie Question: Whole Drive Is Read-Only??

All -

Thanks in advance for your help. After 2 hours with Tech Support today, I can't bear the thought of calling back.

My DNS-323 died in a power outage yesterday and I had to reset it today (4 times) before it was on the network again. Now, however, the print server does not work (I noted a fix involving deleting the queue) and, the bigger problem - the entire drive seems to be read-only!

The settings in the config manager say it is Global R/W, so I can't see what's causing this. I've "touched" the settings to ensure a refresh of sorts - and nothing.

Thoughts? I want to upgrade the firmware, as well, but i thought I better solve this first...

Thanks!!!

Re: Rookie Question: Whole Drive Is Read-Only??

I'm sure others w/more knowledge will reply soon, but I'll give a few simple suggestions.

First and foremost, back up your data ASAP, if you haven't already.  smile   That's really critical in a situation like this, and should be your first priority.

You could try doing a shut-down from the admin utility and then restart it and see if that helps at all.  Probably won't do anything, but just take a couple of minutes to try until someone w/better suggestions comes along.

Good luck...

Re: Rookie Question: Whole Drive Is Read-Only??

Thanks DNS-323 Talker. I did upgrade the firmware and reboot the entire thing, but, to no avail. Still, I get "access is denied" all the time.

Rather frustrating, as I desperately need to write to the drive today.

Anyone else have any ideas? Or shall I resign myself to a day with our friends at tech support?

Much appreciated,

Re: Rookie Question: Whole Drive Is Read-Only??

One solution is to backup the data, reformat the drives and then restore the data.
