Hi All,
I am recording videos (wmv) from Internet to my DNS-323. I keep getting this "Delayed write failed" - I googled and tried almost everything recommended - without success.
Do others have similar issue writing many large files (e.g. 20 files each 300 MB) to DNS-323 at the same time? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kilo

Define "at the same time"
I can run a BackupExec disk-to-disk backup that creates a dozen or so 1GB files in a single job (I believe they are sequentially created) would that be considered "at the same time"?

How about some specifics - exactly what did you try?
There are different reasons for the delayed write failure message, depending on the particular scenario - some of them would be applicable in this case, others would not.
Describe your network - is it wired, what speed, switch or hub, type of cables used - is it wireless, a/b/g, etc.

Hi, thanks.
It is a wired network 100 mb/s, with all devices connected to a router that is conncted to the Internet.
On a wired windows XP computer, I start downloading videos (wmv files) from the Internet. As many as 20. I have set the recording location to \\dns-323\recording_folder on my dns-323. By "same time" I meant writing on dns-323 by many applications at the same time.
I tried registry hack as suggested in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330174
but realized that my registry setting was already set as recommended.

That Microsoft article is specific to internal disks for which caching has been enabled, and has no relevance to network attached storage which is what the DNS-323 is.
I'm a little puzzled as to the source of the message since, write caching (without which you cannot get delayed writes) is, by default, disabled for network attached drives, making the message you show, theoretically impossible.
The cables you're using to connect the devices to the router - are they CAT5, were they ready made or did you crimp them yourself? Some sort of network failure is the most likely cause of the problem.

Cables are CAT5, ready made - I did not crimp them.
I originally thought may be its because my dns-323 goes to sleep mode after 5 minutes of in-activity, when data is being cached. So I set the in-activity time to be 15 minutes but that didn't help either.

You could try disabling spindown for let's say 24 hours and see what happens.
Based on my observations, when downloading to a network share, the downloaded files appear to be stored on the local disk of the system doing the download, until it is complete at which time it is transfered to the chosen location.
I haven't downloaded the DNS-323, but I do download to other network shares on a Windows Server - I'll have a go at it and see if I notice anything unusual.

I found that when I disable my wireless connection (54G), I do not get this error anymore. Its seems strange becoz I had my wired network (100mb/s) set to higher priority. But apparently, my wireless connection still gets some use. After I turn off my wireless, no more errors

Were you running both wired & wireless connections from a laptop to the a network at the same time?
Offline
Yes, although I assumed that since wired was higher priority - the wireless connection won't be used. But when I checked, I found that data was being transferred using both connections.

You mention the wired as set to higher priority - how are you setting the priority?
