Kind of off-topic, but there are a lot of smart people here, so.....
I ran out of ports recently due to the addition of the DNS-323 and a couple other network devices.
I have a swtich attached to my router already. Can I attach another swith to the switch? E.g., take a line from the switch and attach that to a second switch, and then attach other network devices to that second switch?

Yes you can.

I do that for a pair of networked printers sitting under a built-in desk in the hallway because there's only one network port at the wall there. It'll work just fine to hook a switch to another switch. Having said that, we'll have to consider the bandwidth reduction (network architecture/performance) and additional latency due to this second switch.... ie. avoid putting the DNS-323 on the second switch unless all the other computers or appliances (media players) accessing this DNS-323 are also on this second switch... this is so that all the computers/appliances don't have to go thru 2 switches to get to the DNS-323 box. Mine ok - there're only 2 printers on this second switch and they don't have a constant or high-bandwidth requirement.

Thanks for the advice, Phil...makes sense.
The DNS-323 is on the first switch, a 10/100/1000 Dlink switch that is attached to the router. the two main computers that need speed the most are attached to that same switch.
This second switch would serve a Location Free sony "slingbox" device, and a multimedia streamer...thinking about the EVA8000 from Netgear, or the upcoming Dlink DSM-750. That would mean the media streamer would have one switch to go through to get to the DSN-323, where all my media is stored...
As long as we're off-topic generally, how do you like your DSM-320RD? I'm primarly interested in a good user interface my wife can navigate to see the images on our DNS-323, and streaming non-DRM audio, and some home movies (which will include some HD from a Canon HD camcorder).

If you have HD from the camcorder the DSM-320 may not be useful (the other ones you mentioned will probably do). The DSM-320RD is usable. The user interface is quite ok (somewhat pretty and easy to use). Navigation actually became easier after I found the jump-down ("page down") button on the remote (at one time I was silly and going down line by line on the screen via the remote!). Music/MP3 playback is good. MPG/video playback is good too. Live365 is easy/good. Showing photos on the TV is easy but some pictures/photos refuse to show up on the TV. The CF/SD slot is convenient. Digital audio output only works for some sources; have to use the analog output for some sources. The DVD player portion isn't exciting but is usable. Hopefully one of these days a new firmware can solve the photo display problem. Otherwise it's an ~ok media player.

Thanks for the details...showing photos on the TV is the major ingredient in the WAF for this purchase, so that weighs heavy on my decision. If she doesn't gush "Oooo, this is so great! There's our ickle Tommy on the TV!" or something similar, she'll take away my credit cards.
