Re: Firmware 1.04beta

Seems like all files that are created with this firmware gets corrupted for me.
All older files are ok, but new ones, are corrupt.

Some small files a few 100kbs were ok, but large files a few Mb did not work at all. They are created ok, so it seems like everything is ok, but the files are not ok.

Problem is now gone when downgrading to 1.03 again.

Be carefull when testing this beta.

I don't know if you read this thread - but you'll find the release notes in the first post.

Re: Firmware 1.04beta

does anyone know which commands are executed when you activate the BT functionalities from the easy search utility? i know its supposed to add another section in the web administration pages...

i don't have windows, so cannot run the executable easy search utility.
im on a mac, can access the GUI and have ssh acces to the unit using the funplug exploit. (and got debian etch installed) any ideas how to activate BT manually?

big thanks to the great discussions on this forum smile

edit:
after playing around, i figured you don't need to run the "downloader" function of the easysearch executable.
i was just so hooked on the idea cuz some guy wrote that you HAD to run it to enable BT. actually all you need to do is acces the GUI, enter your login details and click "downloader". i didn't find the way to actually run BT though because the save settings button is grayed out...  check my attached JPEG
maybe its the fact that im running firefox2 on OS X but it would surprise me as other sections of the GUI allow me to enter values and  "save settings"

ideas anyone?

Re: Firmware 1.04beta

Ok, now things are starting to get weird.

Even though it's a beta, maybe we can share problems. Two have come up for me:
1. the BT doesn't work anymore. Get the "Download failed" when I try to start one.
2. the folder in which I saved the first BT's can't be deleted. That goes for the files as well.

No files corrupted so far though...

Actually for me, I ran the downloader (well, clicked on it), and it didn't work.

I click on "Downloader" in Easy Search then I get a pop-up.. "Loading..." etc. which seems normal (I suppose it's trying to load the BT code) And then I get another info pop-up "Please check hard drives" and that's it.

The "Save Settings" buttons are still greyed out for me.

Has anyone come across this prob with FW 1.04B21?

Re: Firmware 1.04beta

I have exactly same problem with dtshin, but I'm not sure if it's because I changed default permission setting on file system. I don't like everything owned by nobody and everything is 777 or 666, so I changed some owner, group, and mod, even removed <web> samba share. I will try to see if this occurred "Please check hard drives". BTW, I cannot even change language cause of same error message.

Does it matter if I install non-Australian firmware if I purchased the unit in Australia?

Rocky -
I have installed 1.03 from US - no problems. I did read somewhere (NOT here) that there are regional differences, but I think that is incorrect.
I have NOT tried 1.04 as it seems a little *too* beta for me big_smile

I am in Australia, bought two of these in Australia, and flashing them with the US firmware was no problem.

It seems the hardware is basically the same everywhere (just a different power cord).

Re: Firmware 1.04beta

Whats the version of the easy search utility that allows you to save the downloader settings?  I'm using 3.500 and it doesnt have that option you guys are talking about.  Where can I find the newer one?

I dont think that you can find the utility with the downloader enable options in official places.

Latest Beta is 1.04b30.

No downloader anymore. D-Link is not focussing on that feature. The device is intended for back-up functions espacially RAID.

Anyone who wants to have 'real fun':smile needs to play around with all the nice apps described here. But keep in mind that your warranty for the device is not valid anymore if you do custom changes.

BTW: I use fw 1.03 which is the best working so far.

And just WHERE do you get that piece of information from?
Can you provide a link to anywhere that D-Link says "the device is intended for backup functions especially RAID" or words to that effect?

RAID is not a form of backup, and is not intended to provide backup functionality - it is a method of providing disk redundancy, so that if a drive fails, the system continues to run.

On the other hand, a backup device is one that stores a copy of your original data in case whatever device has the original fails - should this happen the original device is replaced, and the data stored in the backup copied to it.

RAID serves no purpose in a backup device, as backup devices can be & frequently are offline storage devices, such as tape - if your backup device failed, it would have no impact on business unless your primary storage device also failed simultaneously - you would therefore be better off putting the RAID in the primary storage device.

In my opinion, the fact that D-Link provides RAID1 functionality in the device is an indication that backup is not it's intended function - I am not saying that it cannot be used for backup, but merely that "the device is not intended for backup functions."

Not really a link but I can say (thats the information I have) that its intended for backup-use in SoHo and for whatever in private. (Intended!)

BUT anyone can for sure use it for whatever he / she wants it to be.

There are probably different ways how you can do backups. With RAID I just wanted to illustrate its original intention. (Other apps included in coming firmwares like the downloader (which is not sure to come) are just an addition to give the device a wider range of usage.)

so if you place files in a "special" format you will break your warranty..

(and yes its true smile)
