I've had my 323 for about 5 years now and I'm just starting to see some issues with it. It will randomly power down throughout the course of the day (and night). I checked the outlet that it was plugged into, moved it to another outlet and even plugged it into my UPS. No change. Recently it has had some difficulty starting up at all. The lights will come on and flash, but then go out and come back on and go off in an odd manner until it just completely powers down and the lights stay off. I've checked the brick on the power cord for any signs of a short without any visible indication of a problem. I've used a different cord from the receptacle to the brick. I've even looked at the board inside the unit to see if there was any signs of blown circuits or loose connections. I'm at the end of my patience here. Sometimes I can start it up and it will run for 10 hours and other times it won't even completely power up. I've tried pressing the reset button on the back to reset it to factory settings as well.. no success.
I use the DNS-323 for storage of my photography and music and it plays a key role in getting work done. I've sent D-Link a message asking for pricing on parts (both the power cord and the main board)
Does anyone have any further suggestions for me? I don't want to have to purchase another unit if it is a simple problem.

I have set the unit (sans hard drives) outside to cool, thinking it may be the temp sensors. I can log into it and adjust settings. I'm wondering if it would be ok to reset the default settings and reinstall the firmware.
Any one have any input on this?

I guess it is the power supply brick, can you get another one to test?

Resetting to default does not roll back the firmware, it just erases the configuration settings.

Well, if I can get the thing to stay on for more than 3 min, should I try rolling back the firmware to an earlier version?
Also, is there a way to use a multi-meter on the power supply? I know how to use a meter, I'm just unsure of what pins to check voltage on.

also, what is the purpose of the battery on the mainboard? Is is possible that the battery is dead and the NAS won't stay on without it?

That battery runs the time/date clock and powers CMOS memory that stores configuration information - the unit will run with it dead, but lose it's settings at every power off.

Downgrading the firmware is pointless. If you do get it running for a few minutes, grab a copy of the configuration settings as that will make it easier if you buy a new unit.
I don't have my units handt, but I suspect there is a diagram on the P/S that shows the output voltages that can be checked with a meter. If the issue is with the connector on the board though, it won't tell you much.
