I/O-Error when writing to DNS-323

Hi.

I have got a DNS-323 with 2x250GB.
When uploading data to the NAS, I have the following problems:

1) In some folders I can't create a subfolder or write a file.
When I create the folder at another place in the directory and move it to the suggested place, I will get no error.

2) Copying a lot of files to one folder I get an I/O-Error after a couple of files.
But not always after the same number or size of uploaded data.

I tried it from SuSE 11.3 and from Windows XP.
Same problem on both systems.

I tried a disk check, but get only the message "failed".

Systeminfo looks strange....

Total Drive(s):     2
Volume Name:     Volume_1
Volume Type:     Standard
Total Hard Drive Capacity:     -1 MB
Used Space:     0 KB
Unused Space:     0 MB

PHYSICAL DISK INFO :
Slot     Vendor     Model     Serial Number     Size
Right     MAXTOR     STM3250820AS     xxxx     250 G
Left        MAXTOR     STM3250820AS     xxxx     250 G

Thanks for any ideas.

Re: I/O-Error when writing to DNS-323

Looks a bit better now.

Did a restart after disk check.
DNS is running in RAID1 and the disk size is shown again.

Re: I/O-Error when writing to DNS-323

If you have FFP0.5, install SMART tools and run a system check.  Worth it, mine started degrading and I didn't even know it.  Lost a lot of data.  I was using rsync to back up nightly to disk 2, but since the source was degrading, rsync couldnt access the files (I/O errors) and the backup was erroring out.
