After running for several days, can no longer 'ssh' into dns-323

SSH typically works just fine (both using Fonz's funplug under 2.6.12 and also using a new 2.6.32 Debian kernel).

However, after being up for a number of days, I often find that I can no longer ssh in to the dns-323 (and existing ssh connections drop).
New ssh connects just hang before asking for a password

The box is still pingable and working at least to the extent that nfs shares still work normally so the box is alive.
No changes were made to the ssh config files. And after rebooting, it works perfectly again...

When this happens there are no other ssh connections on the box and nothing really is even running on the box other than the default processes & services (including nfs).

So what could possibly be causing ssh to suddenly stop responding after a number of days?
