Allows 'Root' to be chosen for the UPnP AV path

Hi to all
This is the my first post and i apologize for my english.

The title of this topic is my problem. My Firmware is 1.02eu. I'm italian and i find normal that i have a european firmware.
By IE(with Firefox is impossible) i try to select the root path, but i can't do. i can only choice one of 3 HD that i have.

The UPNP feature is for me very important because i have select DSM-G600 with Access Point and DSM-320RD can read UPNP without my PC is up.

In this way With the DSM-320 i see only one hard disk and i lost all the information that i have on the other 2(about 700GB)

In the D-Link American web site, i have seen that with the firmware 1.01 this BUG is solved.

I don't know if it is possible install the american firmware on my machine(REVB) but if i don't install i cannot select Root Path.

I appreciate any suggest.

Kind regards
Walter

Hi, I am from the UK and would like an answer to your question too, for the same reasons, I have the 320 media server too. Good luck!

I don't know nothing about upnp so, someone else might answer to this question, or if you can speak German you might try to ask this question at here.

Re: Allows 'Root' to be chosen for the UPnP AV path

Hi to everybody
few minutes ago i downloaded and then applied the american firmware 1.02 of 10/19/06(Format mm/dd/yy).
Simply wonderful for 3 main reasons
1) In the UPNP i can select root and then i can use all 3 HD of 300GB each(900 GB in total) in order to comunicate with DSM-320RD
2) I can also use Firefox not only Internet Explorer (6 or 7 is the same)
3) In disk utility i can use EXT2 or EXT3 in order to format device

It seems stable and now i 'm happy to work with a powerful  DSM-G600

Re: Allows 'Root' to be chosen for the UPnP AV path

from the download topic in the firmware folder i downladed the DSM-G600_fw_v1-02us(1.49.1019.2006). Once installed i have tried a to use Web program  WEB by Firefox browser and i have seen that for the first time i worked.
Then i select on the web Menu the Advanced Topic and i selected the UPNP AV.
In this panel i saw for the firt time that i could select Root value on the Path Parameter. I have selected it and then i have applied .

Then from my DSM320RD i have choiced G600 as media server and Under Music Panel  i could select the Mp3 files that i have on Hard Disk on USB Ports and under Video panel the Videoclip  that i have inside of DSM-G600.

Before this new firmware i could select only one Path(Internal Hard Disk or External Hard Disk Linked at USB1 or External Hard Disk Linked at USB2).

Now you can understand that i have the possibility to manage 3 HDD as 1 HDD. in few words i manage about 900GB where i have Videoclip in Vob format, Songs in Mp3 Format and Foto in Jpeg format.

New firmware give more possibility on Hard disk Maintneance. The Scan Disk option also permit the fix of Error on HDD, but i didn't tested.
Permit to insert in DSM-G600 revB a non formatted Hard disk and then when it is ready he asked HDD format. I have tested and it works.

Nice regards

Re: Allows 'Root' to be chosen for the UPnP AV path

Hello to everybody

After some days i made many tests and i discovered that it is not possible use UPNP methodology with thousands an thousands of files.

As i explained on prevoius post i have 3 HD and each one is about 300 GB.
In one HD there are a lot of mp3 files in the other 2 there are a lot of videoclip in Vob format.

From DSM-320RD every time i try to select the Video or Music  Topic DSM-G600 start to read all 3 HDD in order to find all the Video or Music in 900 GB and in order to make this it employs too much time and the DSM-320RD after some minute answers to me "Impossible to access at this folder"

The G600 doesn't catalog file as can do the his Media Server utility under windows and then every time he research all the files and i have not problem for few files  but if i have a lot it is impossible to manage it.

I think that i will change hardware. i want to use a NAS without my PC. Linked by ethernet(wireless is not yet good with the VOB files) to another Multimedial hardware connected to TV.

Best regards
Walter
