Alt-f keeps spinning disks up and down

I'm not sure why.. Standard alt-f (not flashed) the disks spindown time seems to be ignored (it will spin disks down after a few seconds) then wants to restart them a few seconds later.... Any ideas?

0.1B6?

There are a lot of things that influence the disks spinup/down.

In 0.1B6 disk spindow is advisory, i.e., the disks are said to spindown after N minutes. It is up to them to spindown. For B7 this will be slightly changed.

Also In Disk->Utilities, if "Power Sav." is set, the spindown will be disk dependent, and the Spindown value is ignored. This is a bug, for B7 "Power Sav." (APM -- Advanced Power Saving) can be disabled. One of my disks spindown in two minutes if "Power Sav." is set to high.

If "Power Sav." is grayed-out, then the disk does not supports APM, and the Spindow timeout value will prevail.

Spinup is dictated by the process running in the box. Even if the box seems to not be in use, other computers in the network might do a scan/refresh of computers or shares, and that might be enough to wakeup a disk.

B7 is only two weeks away, I expect.
