How to control fan speed under debian squeeze reloaded-2.6.32-5-orion

Hi,

I've got alt-f firmware flashed onto my NAS. (Rev C1)
One of the options it offers is a debian reloaded.

When I reload debian, the fan switches onto full speed.

How can I control it?
Under Alt-f or stock firmware - it never goes full speed, and the drives don't really get very hot,
- So I'd like to slow them a little.

The Kernel is 2.6.32-5-orion.

I've tried installing lm-sensors, and it finds the LM75 sensor.
Why I type the "sensor" command, it gives me a temp reading of the hdd, but no fanspeeds.
Typeing "pwmconfig" in order to create a fancontrol.conf, throws out an error

"There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed"

can anybody help?

thanks
