I have 2 x 2TB WD WD2001FASS drives that have fallen out of sync due to a power failure. As far as I can tell the drives are okay, since the DNS-323 is not reporting any errors. The drives are about 75% full and are usually lightly used to stream media.
The problem I'm having is the time it's talking to resync the drives which has been going on for nearly 3 days now. The unit has been used very little during the resync process with the only activity being the access of a Outlook pst folder a couple times a day. The estimated time to complete the resync fluctuates between 6,000 mins to 25,000 mins. Yep, that's between 4 to 17 days. Is this normal and is there anything I can do to speed up the process, such as pull one of drives, wipe the partition and re-insert to allow the raid array to be rebuilt?

It took me ~1 day to copy 500 GB from one disk to another on the DNS. It is quite slow...

The best way to ensure there is no activity would be to disconnect the network cable for a while. Keep in mind that other internal processes (media server scanning etc) also slow down the resync, not just external activity.

I had the UPnP server enabled. After turning it off the resync time dropped to 180 min.
Thanks.

That is definitely resource intensive
Pretty much any disk activity kills (slows to a crawl) the rebuild process. It's just too much for the low end hardware to handle. This device really isn't built for multi-user access. The device is pretty good at doing some functions, but is not designed (nor intended at the price) to be competative with a PC.
Glad to hear it resolved your issue (or at least it is counting down from a smaller number of minutes).
