DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

Hi All

Ive had the DNS 323 for a while with firnware 1.09 and 2 HDs (not raided).

Issue:

I get no network activity light
I cant switch the device off from the front power button

What I have tried:

Reset button
Try each HD at a time in each slot
Reformatted a HD and tried that
reset the Router

Any ideas anyone?

Re: DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

I think it's time to face it - the box itself has a problem.

Are you getting flashing power & disk LEDS at turn on?

No - it's dead - try a reset to factory default first and then consider a replacement.
Yes - you may have software/firmware issues - try a reset to factory defaults, and then if you have the skills there should be an entry in the wiki on recovering from bricked firmware.

Re: DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

Thanks fordem

HDs spin and their LEDs flash too. Power LED is also on. Network LED comes on when I replug the power cable and switch the device on. this is only for a fraction of a second. Also the router port LED stays lit up however router cant detect the device.

Tried the factory reset however it doesnt seem to do anything ie push the reset button, push the reset button and power together

Re: DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

I'd say you have either a hardware failure or you have somehow managed to corrupt the firmware - if you think you're up to it, try a reflash ...

http://dns323.kood.org/howto:reflash_from_windows

or replace it.

Swapping disks around or in and out will probably not make a difference - the unit should actually power up with no disks (with firmware 1.09) and be accessible via the web interface.

Re: DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

Hey there,
I've got the same problems with my dns 313.
I don't know how and what to do cause I'm afraid to lose my files..
via usb it works well...

Will I lose all my data if I do a factory reset?
Doesn't exist a way to force it to connect with the lan?!

Re: DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

Exactly the same problem here.  I've had my 323 for ages now and only recently it's started this same malfunction..which is:

Device stays powered on
All lights are blue
device IS pingable

However...device cannot be accessed via web interface or CIFS (windows share) nor can be it powered off.  I have to yank the power cord.  When it powers on, it comes back and can be accssed for around 2 minutes and then repeats the same behaviour.

Any other thoughts?

Re: DNS 323 - Cant switch off and no network connectivity

I fixed this situation connecting the device on a proper windows pc (I was using parallels desktop on mac before) and I could restore it (without losing data, only system partitions).
I've updated the firmware to 2.01 (It was 2.00) and now users administration works well!
try to update!

Sounds like you have a service that is killing your system, perhaps due to insufficient resources. I'd suspect the uPnP server.

Remove / shut down all services. Enable one at a time until you find the culprit.

3 * (DNS-323 with 2 * 2TB) = 12TB Running FW v1.08 & FFP v0.5
