I have uploaded the CH3SNAS firmware to my DNS-323. It is functioning fine but when I try to return to the original or indeed any of the available firmware versions I get the following error:
Firmware Upload Error!
The uploaded file was not accepted by the CH3SNAS. Please return to the previous page and select a valid upgrade file.
P.S. I do not need reminding it was not such a good idea.

I believe there is some checksum code inside the source where it's not possible to use any other firmware than the Conceptronic one.
so I asls wonder if the 323 has it's config file encrypted or just plain text.
Tjsak!

Looks like you may have joined the CH3SNAS family...as long as things are working, may not be a bad thing.

It will not even accept a reload of the CH3SNAS firmware.

It is working fine. The web interface is rebranded. The Easy Search tool fails to find it, but that is not a big issue as I do not need to use it.

I think I saw the GoAhead web server sources - would be cool if someone could find out how to move the config stuff to another port, e.g. 81 or whatever so that 80 becomes free for lighttpd.

Hi fonz,
I try to build the cross compile environment using the files from Conceptronics. But have trouble to get the uclibc build due to missing links. I tried to fix those by hand, but I get error message:
root@mmbox:/media/nas/src/CH3SNAS_GPL/uclibc-toolchain-src-20040609/gcc-3.3.x/toolchain_arm/bin# ln -s /bin/sed
ln: Erzeugen der symbolischen Verknüpfung ,,./sed" zu ,,/bin/sed": Operation not supported
That's strange. Any hint what might be wrong?
Thanks & regards, ollo
Edit: Never mind, I got it fixed! It's not a good idea to try building everything on a cifs mounted drive...

it's always a pretty shame you do not see a simple how-to to compile from sources some binary stuff .. no idea how to do it ..

Hi zeroday,
just follow this http://dns323.kood.org/howto:crosscompile. Then you'll have a toolchain to build binaries.
Take any source file, modify the Makefile to use the arm-gcc from the toolchain and "make". I got my first binary build today

Has anyone a hint for me where I can find the CH3SNAS Firmware v1.00 ?
I've searched on the new Conceptronic website but couldn't find it :-(
I used the webs ( from KRH ) on port 88 to upload the D-Link Firmware on my CH3SNAS
( I just want to know I've the option if Conceptronic will not release firmware updates in the future :-) ).

You can find the firmware INhere http://download.conceptronic.net/GNU-GP … /merge.tgz it's the frodoII firmware. Its kind of hidden.
edit:
You also could have used the link from KRH in post #24
The firmware is also on the CD delivered with the CH3SNAS

i have put the conceptronic 1.00 and 101 firmware for you on my site
http://www.aroundmyroom.com/ch3snas/100.zip
I will tjek it if they will put it on the web next week ..
please note that it's not directly possible to switch between dlink and / or conceptronic firmware. there is some checksum check I believe
meanwhile they are busy with 1.02 so do not worry
tjsak!

An IRC chat with zeroday showed that although the two are pretty similar, they are not equal. The CH3SNAS uses at least a different CPU. Compare:
http://dns323.kood.org/_detail/21cpu.jpg
and
http://www.aroundmyroom.com/ch3snas/4.html
88F5181-B1 (dns323) vs. 88F5182-A2 (ch3snas)

Hi fonz,
...interesting. I checked the net but could not find any information on what might be different. The 88F5182 is for sure called Orion-NAS and belongs to the Marvell Feroceon family.
By the way, the CPU is the same (ARM926EJ) as the dmesg log shows - its the SOC which might be different. It could be the 88F5182 is just a process shrink of the 88F5181.
Anyhow, have you checked if the same motherboard version/layout is used on both units?

I was thinking something similar. Perhaps some of the CH3SNAS owners could be adventurous enough to open their NAS and take snapshots of the motherboard? Some closeups on the chippery would be nice as well. Maybe someone owns both units, and can take comparison photos for all of us to see?
Something similar to these: http://dns323.kood.org/lib/exe/mediamanager.php?ns=
Just a thought
Cheers //Patrik
