Hi,
since I'm neither convinced that the RAID-1 feature is working as advertised, nor am I really sure if I would not prefer a backup solution I thought:
Why not "dd" one of the discs every week or night to the second disc.
This would give me reliability and secures data in case of unintended deletion.
Crond is there and running, so it should not be a problem.
I'm thinking about something like
dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sdb2 bs=4096 conv=notrunc,noerror
Has anybody tried this? Does it affect the boot process of the DNS-323 if both discs have exactly the same content?
Does it always and exclusively boot from HD_a2 ?
Should I unmount both /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 before usng "dd"?
Can I unmount both?
Cheers,
Emacs
