Every so often when (re)naming directories and (re)naming files on the DNS323 I get (very) old style 8 character filenames.
This is an example
C46DPW~F.
When this starts happening, it is tolerated for a while, then there is a shout to the rest of the house that I am going for the ''Geronimo Switch'' - restart my computer, all the DNS boxes and the internet
When everything is restarted the problem generally goes away.
Today I renamed the file
Back.jpg
and it came up as
C46DPW~F.
OK i forgot the extension / termination
By chance I renamed it again, to be able to display it in the directory as a jpg file.
I was expecting to see
C46DPW~F.jpg
But lo, and behold it popped up
Chantays - Two Sides Of The Chantays - Back.jpg .jpg
Can anyone tell me what is going on?
This clue may save me a lot of wasted rebooting time.
(Running XP served by DNS323 with ext3 formatted discs).

I have a similar setup (XP, HDDs formated to Ext3) and never had such problems.
What firmware version are you, currently using?
Offline
I have FW 1.08.
1.10Beta7 hangs my machine.
Like many, I format with 1.10b7 and quickly revert to stable 1.08
(I too with 1.08 until recently, ''never had such problems'').

And you need to restart everything(!?) every time this happens?
