Web Admin access remotely

Dlink FW 1.10
SSH installed (Telnet disabled)

I've seen a few posts on this topic, but am still a bit confused.  I'm able to access the Dlink Web Admin UI via 192.168.1.100 on my local network.  but I want to be able to access it remotely.  I have a DNS set up and can access Transmission using DNS through OpenDNS using the port # defined in my transmission.conf file.

One Forum post references the wiki HOWTO Build lighttpd on Wiki and
while I have modified the lighttpd.conf file as shown here

Code:

######### Options that are good to be but not neccesary to be changed #######

## bind to port (default: 80)

server.port                = 5978
#server.port = 8080
## bind to localhost (default: all interfaces)
#server.bind = "grisu.home.kneschke.de"

I have that port 5978 forwarded to 192.168.1.100 on my router, but for the life of me I can't see how to get it working on the Web UI.

When I'm remote, my use of server port http://MyDNSsetting:5978 does get me to a site that has files listed, etc.  But what I'm missing is where/how to get that same type of setup for the DLink Web UI.

Thanks for any help...

Re: Web Admin access remotely

In your router, forward port 5978 (or whatever port you want to use) to the IP of your DNS323 which appears to be 192.168.1.100 port 80.

The DLink Web Admin has nothing to do with Lighttpd.

Re: Web Admin access remotely

I thought it would be that easy...
Here's my setting for Transmission from my NetGear WNDR3700.  My start & end ports are 9091.
In my settings.json file is:  "rpc-port": 9091

Service Name     Start Port     End Port     Server IP Address
        Trans               9091              9091    192.168.1.100

I was assuming it was these two settings that made the magic happen.

For my WebUI my NetGear setting is this:

Service Name     Start Port     End Port     Server IP Address
          webadmin               80                        80    192.168.1.100

When I have this setting, it fails to connect.

Re: Web Admin access remotely

Try using a non-standard port for the webadmin - say 8081 in & 80 out (whatever you use in, use 80 out) - it may be that your ISP blocks port 80 to prevent webserver from being hosted, especially if the T&C of your plan don't allow it.

Re: Web Admin access remotely

The problem I've got ,among many smile , is that I don't see how on my router to set an 'in' and 'out'.

Here's a screen shot of what my options look to be....
http://portforward.com/english/routers/ … NS-320.htm

say 8081 in & 80 out (whatever you use in, use 80 out)

Thanks for your help.....

Re: Web Admin access remotely

Not all routers allow port translation, you seem to have a Netgear router - I've noticed that their consumer line don't offer that, it seems ot be reserved for their small business products.

Re: Web Admin access remotely

Do you need port 80 for anything? If not, you can forward that since it is the default for the Web Admin UI app.

Re: Web Admin access remotely

I tried redirecting Port 80, but the webpage just timed out.

You could try a D-Link router - last I looked even their cheapest routers did port translation.
