Odd network behavior

Hi all,

I have 2 DNS-323's ... one is working perfectly (as expected), but the other one (newer) is exhibiting odd network light behavior.

What I've been noticing, is the network light blinking away as if there's traffic.  If I disconnect ethernet, obviously it goes off.  All of my computers are plugged into a Gigabit switch then to the internet through my router, when I disconnect the switch from my router, the network traffic light remains blinking.  It still occurs when the unit goes to sleep (the power button dims).

I used to have ffp0.5 on this unit, and upgraded it to ffp0.7.  I've really only noticed problems after updating to 0.7.  My other DNS-323 does not show this problem, even though I went from 0.5 to 0.7 on that one as well.  Both are running FW 1.10.

Doing a 'ps aux' show:

Code:

root@Movies:~# ps aux

There's nothing here that stands out as a warning sign to be the cause of network light blinking.

I've noticed severe network slowdown when reading or writing to this NAS though ... down to about 2-3M/s ... typically, I get around 10-11M/s through a standard 100M connection.  This slowdown will occur randomly and causes my video playback to stutter.

The drives are the WD EARS, but aligned to 4K sectors, so that shouldn't be an issue.  I could take all the data off of it, and redo everything, but I would prefer not to.

Thanks for any ideas on how to resolve this issue.

Re: Odd network behavior

Well, it seems that I was able to trace out the problem to a Raspberry Pi that I have set up as my XBMC player (OpenELEC).

For some reason, its constantly looking at the NAS, but not actually waking it up.  Weird.
