Easy Search Utiltiy can't locate DNS-323 + can't find in router util

Morning all,

Well I have been going most of the night and back at it again since 6am this morning, I've read heaps of posts on this site where it seems people have had similar problems, but none seem to provide solutions (possibly because I get a bit confused by the lingo at times). So I thought it time to post my own problem and hope that you wonderful souls can help out yet another bloody newb.

I have a DNS-323 with one new seagate 500gb sataII in it (once I get that up and running, I will transfer the contents of my 320gb seagate sataII external drive onto the 500gb one, and then add the 320gb one to the dns also).

The DNS is plugged into my wireless router/modem (Billion 7402VGP).

My computer is an ASUS laptop (F3JP) which connects wirelessly to the Billion 7402VGP.

Incidently, I aso have an Xbox networked (via cable) to the Billion 7402VGP, and once the DNS is up and running, the plan will be to have Xbox read films, music, pics, etc straight from the DNS, tha way I don't have to leave my laptop running all the time.

So, I put in the DNS software disc and fre up Easy Search Utility and even after clicking refresh a couple of times, I just see the general box/window that is the program itself...no DNS unit showing in the top 'Network Storage Device' window.

I tried to look for the list of IP addresses on my etwrok using the Billion utility that manaes my router, but I can't for the life of me work out where I am meant to be looking for that list...

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Cheers

ps:
Other things I have done :
After a couple of hours of frustration last night, I eventually removed the drive from the DNS and put it in the other side of the DNS.
I have tried the reset button at the back of the DNS.
I have tried different ports in the back of the router (the xbox is in #1. There are 4 in total, I've tried 2,3,and 4).
I have tried plugging the other end of the blue cable (that is attached to the DNS) directly into the ethernet port on my laptop.

I tried to download a more recent version of Easy Search Utility from dlink.com but when I get t the right page and click on the button called 'download', I get a "Problem Loading Page:Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ftp.dlink.com"

HI Gen,
can you open a command window ( run...cmd) and post the results of ipconfig /all ? You may not be on the same subnet etc. Also - I have read that SOME people can't use the easysearch utility from a wireless connection - try plugging straight in to the router with your laptop.

Try to use this :

ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns_nas/DNS-323/easy_search(3%5B1%5D.5.0.0).zip

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 x DNS-320
1 x DNS-325

If you are running Vista Home Basic / Premium try the following:

Change the registry key value 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa' from 3 to 1 and safe and reboot.

If you are running Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate:

run 'secpol.msc' --> Security / Local Settings --> Security Options --> double click 'Networksecurity: Lan Manager Authentification' and chose '&LM- und NTLM-Answers.. '

(setting options translated:)

Or use Win XP..

If you are already using XP post your network configuration with IP settings etc..
