Help with spin down

Hi.

I've 2 disks attached:

Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: SAMSUNG  Model: HD501LJ          Rev: CR10
Type:   Direct-Access                    ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: WDC      Model: WD800JD-75MSA3   Rev: 10.0
Type:   Direct-Access                    ANSI SCSI revision: 03

I made a 80 GB RAID 1 volume with both disks and the rest of the space in first disk, is used to MLDonkey and Samba repository. The current temperature of the box is 54ºC/129ºF and the disks never go to sleep (obviously).

What I want to do (if its possible) is put the second drive (80GB) in sleep mode until I need to access to the content, and the second drive (500GB) downloading and serving files.

First of all I put off the swap file in the RAID Volume, but it's the Volume_1 (/mnt/HD_a2) and I more clues to avoid the access to this Volume, by daemons or logfiles. MLDonkey is running at Volume_2 and logfile writing also to the same disk.

Sorry for my English

Regards from Spain

Re: Help with spin down

You are using RAID 1, so any data will be written into both disks, therefore it is normal that none of your disk can spin-down because MLdonkey keeps both of them busy.
In my case, I have two disks installed in the "separate/standard" mode, and mldonkey only keeps one disk busy and the other disk is spin-down most of the time.

Re: Help with spin down

Hi

I know. Actually the first drive spins down until I access it. I moved fun_plug and mldonkey to the second drive. Th eonly thing left is move .lpd dirctory to second drive changing the smb.conf file. But I don't know how make persistents the changes to smb.conf

Regards.
