installing firefly - novice

I've been trying to install firefly to use with a Roku Soundbridge.  I'm not all that familiar with linux and need help.
I've followed the 'easy' instructions from wiki:

http://dns323.kood.org/howto:firefly

Couple of questions:

1) Method 1 says:

"use FTP access to place the files in \\NAS\HDD_1 or \\NAS\Volume_1 (depends on FW version)"

Why do I have to use FTP instead of just copying them from windows. Does FTP do something special with the files?

Also \\NAS\volume_1 doesn't exist.  I assume this is just \volume_1 (ie. the root of hard drive 1)?  I just copied the files over and didn't use FTP to volume 1.

2) step 4 is to telnet and execute the following:

cd /mnt/HD_a2
export PATH=/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd -f -c /mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd.conf

I can telnet into the device and get to Busy box v1.2.1.  When I try and execute the first line I get an error 'can't cd to /mnt/hd_a2'.  What am I doing wrong here?

My apologies if this is basic - most of this is Greek to me!  Thanks in advance.

Re: installing firefly - novice

hd_a2 is not equal to HD_a2

This is not windows. The filesystem is case sensitive.

Re: installing firefly - novice

gtquan and I have similar questions, however, I have a slightly different problem.  Hopefully, they is an easy fix, simply because this system is all new to me.

1) I downloaded (using Mac OSX 10.4) 'dns323_mt-daapd-svn-1498-with-flac.tar.gz' to \Volume_1 (/mnt/HD_a2).
2) I extracted the file using 'Stuffit', which created 'lnx_bin' all within \Volume_1.
3) Using Terminal, logged in as Telnet <dns.ip.address> (followed Standalone -The Easy Way)

4)  Modified 'mt-daapd.conf' using Text Editor, however, all music is stored '/mnt/HD_b2'

5) Not quite sure what is meant by "Use FTP access to place the files in '\\NAS\HDD_1' or \\NAS\Volume_1' (depends on FW version)
**Is this step instructing the user to move the Music files, or the 'lnx_bin' directory?**

6) Using the Easy-Stand-Alone command, here are the results:

/mnt/HD_a2 # export PATH=/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin:$PATH
/mnt/HD_a2 # export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib
/mnt/HD_a2 # /mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd -f -c /mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd.conf

/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: '/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib/libid3tag.so.0' is not an ELF file
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: '/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib/libid3tag.so.0' is not an ELF file
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: '/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib/libz.so.1' is not an ELF file
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: '/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib/libz.so.1' is not an ELF file
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: '/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib/libsqlite.so.0' is not an ELF file
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: '/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/lib/libsqlite.so.0' is not an ELF file
/mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/mt-daapd: can't load library 'libsqlite.so.0'

I know this is a very broad question, What am I doing wrong?  Do I need to move the music over to \\Volume_1?  Or will this work leaving the files on \\Volume_2?

Any help wold be greatly appreciated!

Blessings,

Preacherboy03
