Unfortunately, the upgrade didn't work via the web interface for me. I just swapped the system.gz file in Click'N'Connect from 313's setup CD. This also means, You'll probably lose all the data on Your hard disk.

You have to conenct the dns 313 via usb to the pc, open up the volume manager and remove all partions (backup all data first, of course). Then you can connect the dns 313 again to the network and install it again.
There is also a file in the firmware zip explaining this.

Hi !
I'm new to this forum.
I had a DNS-313 for a couple of days, and I tryed to install MediaTomb on it unsuccessfully, so I've decided to send a mail to D-Link about my problem between the PS3 and DivX.
I actually don't have any more my DNS-313, and I'll take a Buffalo Linkstation Live, because I know it works.
But D-Link answered to my question, and, for you, I give you the link they send to me about the NEW FIRMWARE (official from D-Link). It seems to be a beta because it is the 1.01b10

The Version 1.01B10 still got some Bugs!!!

BTW on the german ftp there is a new Howto for the installation of a new firmware.
Basically it says that if the system.tgz is not accepted in the web dialog one should locate the file zImage in the directory where the patch was extracted and install that. After the following restart the hdd led will be green as with an unformatted hdd. Now the Click&Connect Utility is used with the option repair an installation but qwithout following the instruction to hard reset the drive. Although it will display that the harddrive is formatted, the ntfs partitions is said to be unchanged.

I didn't try this out, so if anyone has tried this out already, feel free to comment on the success

Try to navigate from ftp://ftp.dlink.de down the directories dns, then dns-313 then driver_software and try to click on the document there.

No, you have to use the directory driver_software instead of documentation
There is a file Howto_update_DNS-313.PDF there.

The instruction in the pdf says that you should NOT hard reset the drive and just go on with the next stepand then the ntfs partition will not be formatted. All the ext2 and swap partitions will be formatted, but since they are overwritten everytime on a power cycle it doesn't matter much.

I've updated from 1.01b6 to 1.01b10 without any formatting, just by uploading the new system.gz via web interface. The unit rebooted and powered back on, but I didn't yet have time to check, whether the hard disk finally goes to sleep.
