Hi all,
I've just ugpraded to a new Samsung HD103UJ 1 TB Hard drive. I have the DNS-313 attached to the network. Then I execute the installer from the CD but installation fails. It says that the DNS cannot be found, and suggets the cables are not attached or something.
If a change the hard drive and put the other I has before, all works like a charm. I don't know what is happening here.
By the way, I saw a notice in eBay from a guy who is selling a DNS-313 with exactly that Samsung hard drive, so someway it should work...!

I'm getting really lost. Some help, please?
Thanks! :-D

Did you hard reset the dns 313 after installing the new drive ?

Hi,
I started changing the old for the new hard drive. Then I tried to do a reinstallation, following the instructions from de latest firmware (b12). Therefore I switched off the NAS, pressed the reset button, switched on and after a second, I realeased the reset button.
But there was no green light nor anything described in the manual or installer. The only light was the blue from the power button.
Maybe this is not the hard reset? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks...!

Hi!
I will try to give the more details I can.
After changing the drives I powered on the NAS (whitout reset of any kind). The only led lighted on is the blue from the button. Is this what it should be?
When connecting the NAS to the network, I tried this ways:
- Connecting the NAS to my LAN, which was 192.168.1.0.
- Changing my LAN to be 192.168.0.0.
- Connecting it directly to my Windows PC through a ethernet cable.
All without results. The installer didn't find the NAS. When trying to go to \\192.168.0.32\Volume_1 or http://192.168.0.32, nothing was found.
Then, since I wasn't getting any positive resoults, I removed the hard drive and connected to an USB hard drive case. When plugged to Windows, it didn't worked at first. In the hard drive tools it showed up but the drive was uninitialized. So I initialized it and created a single partition using NTFS format.
(How must the hard drive be in a fresh install in the NAS? Uninitialized, initialized, formatted? I'm a little confused :-S)
Then I plugged it back to the NAS and reapeated all the steps desribed above. Nothing happened.
Next step was trying a reinstall, as described in the installer. I tried the reset while powering on, as told in the post before. No signal of any reset going on. :-P
Plugged it and again nothing happened.
Arfff, I really don't know if it is the disk, the NAS or just my incompetence...
Thank you all for your help...!

Maybe you should try to delete all partitions on the new harddrive ( aka uninitialized). Shutdown the dns313, connect to ethernet, press the reset button and start the device. For me that worked when i was installing 1.0b6.

I tried but nothing new under the sun... :-( No flashing light, no reset, nothing...
Now I'm considering to change the Samsung hard drive for a new Seagate that is reported to work well...

did u managed to fix this? was it the samsung drive?
i have two HD103UJ waiting for their home (dns-323) but now i'm not sure if they are "not compatible"
is anyone using those samsung HD103UJ f1 1tb drives in dns-323 or 313?

i think i saw from other threads that their samsung drives cant work as well

Yes, itīs so. Samsung 750 and 1000GB definitely donīt work in the 313.
Dlink Germany explicitly points to this fact:

About the 323 I canīt say anything.
