Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

It might have something to do with the NTFS filesystem? OS X tries to write all kinds of extra files and attributes. rsync doesn't work either...The 313 hardware deserves better than this crappy d-link firmware.

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

Hi...!

I have exactly that problem and was thinking I was the only person in the world with it since I don't find any explanation nor post in any forum.

Actually I think it's a problem with Leopard, not with the NAS altough I'm not very sure about it.

This is what happens to me:

- When I try to copy a file to the NAS, I get the privileges error.

- BUT if I open a shell and copy it with "cp <filename> /Volumes/<path to the NAS>" it works perfectly.

- So it does when I use Midnight Commander.

Therefor it only fails when using the Finder. Why? No idea...

Even more complicated:

- If I use the Finder to copy an old file - from several months ago - it also works...!!!!

If I open a shell and execute this command: 'ls -@l' it shows de ACL permissions, which are propietary from Mac OS X. Then I find a difference between the files I can copy from the Finder and the ones I can not.

Maybe a software update from Apple broke this thing. Maybe I do have gremlins. :-S

For me, this problem is still unsolved.

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

It sounds like the o.s. is trying to set the copied file attributes with the ones the user has, such as user, group, etc...

Perhaps is something in the ACL permissions in the /Volumes/ directory or below.

Maybe we should run the "repair permissions" utility from Leopard...?

Having same probleme, I find that using ext2 instead of NTFS works nicely ;-) seems that the NTFS driver is buggy.

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

where can I get a tutorial to change to ntfs???
I think that the solution is not becouse de partition is in ext2 format, I prefeer ext3 to ntfs, but I think that the problem is the samba daemon.
Maybe iīm wrong....

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

I've also changed the shared partition from NTFS to ext2 and updated samba.
Since then, samba share works fine smile

@scapitan, there's a tuto in this board : http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1948-Howt … -ext2.html

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

It is problem with that specific samba dns-313 firmware is using or NTFS. If you change samba to the newer version it works. If you change NTFS to ext2 it works as well.
The easiest solution is to install netatalk and use afp shares in leopard.
The second is to change samba (but in this case I noticed that transfer from windows to NAS is slower for some reason).
Reformat partition to ext2 - very good solution but somewhat complicated.
Install chrooted Debian - everything works but in my case transfer speeds were very slow.

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

Ive been running my complete itunes library on the NAS for a while, with this setup, DNS-313 connected to DLINK DIR-655 with tp kabel, and using wlan for my mac.... everytime i switch song in itunes it seems to have to "buffer" in the start of every song for a few seconds before it starts to play...

Could this be changed by upgrading samba or switching to AFP ? for general better performance?

It seems to be somewhat better when using cable... not quite sure where the problem is

Re: Problem with dns313 and macosx leopard

as said before, this "writing-issue" seem to be a problem only with the finder in mac os X. I downloaded "muCommander" which seem to be much easier to install than for example the midnight commander. Just simply drop the muCommander file to the programs directory as you normally do when installing programs on your mac and then you're ready to go. 10 times easier than switching file systems etc. on the NAS.

Just wanted to share my solution with you since I finally found an easy solution to something that has been a problem for a while.
