After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Hi all,
I flashed the firmware with the above mentioned version, and all seems fine except the http does not work - I cannot reflash it again for example. It seems fine, because it works, the file server works fine, but I will miss the fixed power management firmware edition when it comes.

Did anyone have the same symptom?

Cheers,

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

I had no problems flashing 1.01b14v2 and the HTTP interface works fine for me.

The power management appears to be partially fixed.
Most times, it will power down after the specified time but, on a few occasions, it does not.

I have also noticed that Dlink's FTP site for downloading new firmware now appears to be password protected.

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Hello, thanks for the reply,

I just want to make sure - to "undo" the faulty flash it would be enough to use the Clickn Connect to reformat it to the way it was when I flashed it right ?
And its best to have no data on it because it will be lost right?

Cheers

Before you format the whole thing, try starting up the telnetd daemon using one of the fun_plug scripts available here in the forum.
Login with telnet and start the webserver by entering

Code:

webs &

Maybe you can flash it then via the web interface if the webserver starts without an error.

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

OK, this piece of hardware is making me into an unpatient person.
I plugged it through USB and removed all partitions - as if it was new. I never had a chance to do what naffarin said.
I started it on Ethernet and tried the Clicknconnect I got from this site: http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=gNTyP9CnptFM … 3JP+9prA==
And it sees it, formats it, then restarts it and the light on the HDD shape tuns blue. The smb share is up.
In the meantime i made a permanent ping to 192.168.0.32 and turned off my DHCP server not to confuse the poor thing.
The installer however, stops at "Restarting the device" in somewhat 90%, probably the software never meant to wait that long.
Suddenly the device blinks (the power led) three or so times, ping echo silences, then the ping resumes, and everything else is still hung, except the smb share, which works.

Now I did try naffarin's-guide-to-hack, but it did not work, telnet port is refusing connections (23) as well is the ssh and http port. ftp is resetting the connection at first attempt to send some data (port 21) but accepts connections. Icmp works, at least for echo.
Update: and the strangest thing: after all that reformatting etc. it still has the hostname I initially set it up via http. I tried turning it on while holding reset as well and went all the way around with the installing - to no avail.

Is the thing broken? I don't think so, but how do I make it work? Or reset?

Lukasz,

A guess: have you removed all partitions (all 4) and done a hw reset too (pushing reset button on the back for 20-30 secs as per manual)?

Seems your flash memory was not cleared and/or not all partitions were removed - that's might be the reason keeping the hostname.

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Hi radir,

No, you guessed wrong about the partitions, I always removed all four.
I have second thoughts on the hostname, it might be my DNS Server rule, that the specific MAC should receive specific IP and it has a name associated with the rule, maybe it is resolving the hostname to the IP basing on that knowledge? I can't tell.

Anyway I tried the reset advice, held it on reset when it was off, then again when it was booting and then again when it was already booted. Nothing - all the same symptoms.

I wanted to ask sth more but I will google it first tongue.

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Now that I learnt more about the device (by trial and error mainly), I knew how to properly prepare it for the main DCC 1.00 from the CD that came in the package - interesting thing - it actually did go through, the setup completed, but the http administration is still off - it seems to be firmware independent, which makes me believe there is something wrong with it. But since DHCP client works, and smb share works, I guess nothing else than software is faulty. I am confused.

And another thing. There is a way to reset the device where it removes its partitions and the light becomes green, and a way in which it starts blinking blue. I tried it both ways, although I am confused here as well, and I found no documentation on it: should it restart itself after resetting ie. stop blinking at one time? should I keep pressing the reset button while it resets or not, just wait as it blinks ? Anyways, nothing works.

One idea - since each time partitions are setup the same way and data images are probably copied the same way as well, there is a possibility that there is physical error on the hard drive itself right ? I should be able to check it with USB access.

I already contacted dlink.pl but Polish service quality sucks big time - no reply.
Any other ideas anyone?

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

I have the same problem. I tried to update to the 1.02 firmware, but the web gui is missing. I tried starting the http with command "webs &", but webs was not found. And it seems too, that the Volume_1 share is not working anymore. Do I have to format the entire drive to get web gui working or what?

Excellent. I removed all four partitions and reseted the device. ClicknConnect finds the device, but installation hangs when about 90% is done. Any help would be appreciated???

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Hi Mox!

I suspect this is because the internal setting to which you reset by pressing the RESET button on the back panel of the device may get corrupted when flashing. But I do not know that for sure. I guess thats what happened to my DNS.

Anyway, I got mine working! <cheers/> I underestimaed the dlink.pl support as I wrote above, they never got my post, because their web system for customer support was failing. Anyway, I emailed with a technician and he forwarded me to: ftp://ftp.dlink.pl/dns/dns-313/driver_s … 080812.zip (unavailable from the main download site), and this one carries a DCC 1.02 and additionally flashes the internal memory of the reset function (I guess). While installing, the HDD icon flashed with cyan (green + blue) colours - which was new - I guess thats when my device was repaired. And after format it comes with the 1.02 firmware so no additional flashing is necessary.

I never got to check if the firmware fixes the power management because I am putting all the data back as I write this, I will get back when I have checked this out. Good luck Mox!

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Hi and thanks for the reply,

I tried the DCC 1.02, but it works like the previous version. HDD icon remains green all the time and the installation hangs. When connected to USB, Vista sees the device, and HDD is ok. I even formated the HDD, and the HDD icons is blue and flashes. When using through ethernet, the device won't even shutdown normally.

Re: After firmware update to 1.01b14v2 http management stopped

Look through the forum it may be a Vista problem, there is quite a lot of issues on it. One of the solutions is .... install it on XP and then bring it back to your Vista network when you are done.

Anyway I am just writing to conform: this firmware did solve the fan speed/shutdown and HDD spin down issue for me. As of now this device works as advertised when I decided to buy it tongue

Unbeliveable. I tried installing with XP and installation went through successfully.
