Cannot access my DNS-313

I have a problem I don't understand, your help would be most welcome:
First, here's what is working properly
  - I can tenet to my device
  - I can execute commands from telnet
  - I can ping my device
  - I can see the device in windows explorer, and look at the directory structure
  - I can login in the web GUI, and see the menus

Now any time, I do one of the following actions, the DSN freezes completly (I cannot ping it anymore, in fact, my router can't see it no more, I cannot telnet nor anything obviously):
  - if I try to look into a directory from explorer, it freezes
  - if I try to look into a directory from ftp (filezilla), it freezes
  - if I try to click on anything in the webgui, it freezes

It's also quite hard to get a login session after it froze: I have to reset the DNS and shut it down and back on...

I don't understand what the problem is. The last thing I remember doing was
1/ upgrading to the ast firmware, but then everything lokked fine
2/ changing the MTU size... now it's set up at 1463,
but I don't understand why this should prevent anything from working

Any advice would be most welcome

Re: Cannot access my DNS-313

Ok, as usual, only requesting help provides the answer :-)  (I suppose it's becasue I had to explain my problem.?)
I managed to change the mtu size back to 1490 from within telnet... and it works!

my guess is the web interface is not properly changing the mtu, because it's still showing the 1463 as if I didn't just changed it! I guess it messed up the different configuration files?
